Anyone have an engine fuse box cover for a Matrix/Vibe/Corolla?
I didn't snap my fuse box cover on all the way, it rattled loose and I drove over it.
It's located under the hood, engine compartment, driver's side, color black, and is about 11" long and 3" wide or so. Part number might be 88972396. It's for my 2006 Pontiac Vibe, but it's the same thing and this forum gets much more viewers. This fuse box cover might be the same as the Corolla since they all have the 1.8 liter engine? Will gladly pay for it and the shipping to Maine too. My zip-lock bag duct taped over the exposed fuse box will only last so long.... An online nationwide used parts locator came up with nothing...Thanks for any sympathy, replies or suggestions. Tom

Have you tried the dealer? Have you tried calling local wrecking yards?

Well, I said "what the h*ll" and called the dealer. Turns out the part is less than $5. They had to order it for me. This surprised me because for the last 25 years I have lost count of the number of times that I got folded over and cornholed by a dealer's prices. And I mean porked on certain hard to find items. So for the last 15 years I've been going to the local you-pick junkyard with good results. They don't have any Matrix/Vibes. And for the last 5 years I've been buying many, many parts on E-Bay. Very good luck with that. Only nobody has one of these at the moment, and a 'want-it-now' came up empty after a week. So I posted here for one. Being surprised at the dealer price means that I was expecting something in the range of $39.65 or worse. Geez, this part is over 10" long - takes up a lot of real estate on a shelf - don't know where they got the price this time. Anyway, thanks for the suggestion - it worked this time. Think I can count on it ever happening again? Tom

Don't be surprised about prices at the dealer. I have found their prices on many parts to be comparable to local chain autoparts stores. Example is an oil filter, dealer charges less than a dollar more and I get a better filter. Items like starters and alternators do cost significantly more at the dealer. Some dealers also give discounts to AAA members.
