97 transport delayed 2-3 shift
My tranny is having a shift problem. From 1-2 is normal. But 2-3 there is a delay with low or moderate throttle. It just kind of hangs in between. If I accelerate more, it will finally shift. Also, if i let off just a bit it will sometimes go into 3rd. After in 3rd everything is fine and shifts to 4th with no trouble. No problems at highway speeds. There are no codes stored either. I had read a post about changing the vacuum modulator. Could that be it? I'm really hoping for an easy/inexpensive fix. The van has 120K miles.
Thanks! |

Re: 97 transport delayed 2-3 shift
I hate to tell you....I had the same problems that kept getting worse. I took it to two tranny shops and they both told me knew transmission.
I hope for your sake my problem was not the same as yours. It cost me $1,900.00. Good luck. |

Re: 97 transport delayed 2-3 shift
It worked! I replaced the old vacuum modulator with a cheapie from Advance Auto for ~$18 and it took care of the shifting problem! It only took ~30 min. to do the swap. If you are having shifting problems, this is an easy/cheap thing to try before going to the tranny shop. If it's not the problem, it's only $20 anyway.

Do you remember what modulator you replaced was, or where it is located?
