po code 401 and 303 in that order

I have a 97' ranger extended cab with a 4.0L xlt. The problem with it is, that it loses power, and misses as I drive down the road. It does not make a difference if I speed up or drive at an even speed. A few months ago, I was involved in a not at fault accident, and a shop put a new engine in my truck. It ran fine until the intake manifold gasket sprang a leak. Luckily, there was a warranty which took care of anything previously worked on at the shop it was taken to. Needless to say, about a week after the Ford shop repaired the damages, my check engine light came on. I know that I should have had it checked, but at the moment this was happening, I had no time in the day to take care of the problem. Even with the check engine light staying on, my truck seemed to be driving just fine for about two months after it was worked on at the shop until just recently. The first time I really noticed when something seemed to be wrong was a couple nights ago when I was returning home from work. I made a stop at a red light. As the light turned green, and I took off that is when my truck began acting fairly odd. The very next day, I went to a parts store and asked if they would use there code finder to see what the problem was. They all said that that would not be a problem. The reading said that my truck problems had to do something with codes po401, and po303. Afterwards, we went in to check what those specific codes meant, but for some reason their machine lost the codes and could not tell us what they meant. We tried yet again with checking to see the problems, but my check engine light was off. Bottom line, if there is anyone who could help me with understanding what the meaning for these codes was, and what I could do to fix the problem, that would be great! Thanks!

I suspect that it's more than a plug problem on your no. 3 cylinder. Re: your EGR, remove it and check it out with a vacuum pump. You trust your mechanic?
