Ruff idle and slight shake !!!

Just thought I would see if anyone has any ideas! My sportage started to idle ruff and shake slighty one day so I figured it was time for a tune up So I replaced my spark plugs and wires So afterwards the car still idles ruff and shakes slightly ( mostly feel shake in the steering wheel) I did notice that the wires that plug into my coil packs have cracks in them but plugged in fine and locked. It doest seem like miss firing. Check engine light is on and the code comes up as a dealer specific code there was also a bank 1 error. Does anyone one know the wire config because I forgot how I unplugged them but played around till i got them right ( Ithink LOL) .Ok from the front of the truck I have plug 1 the long wire plugged into coil 4 which is closest to the firewall and I have plug 3 the short wire plugged into coil pack 2. I hope i didn't confuse you let me know if this is wrong. I think I will try cleaning the throttle body and ISC this weekend to see if I can get rid of that slight shake when sitting still and idling. Thank again

All of this is OK...and I guess you mean IAC valve (Idle Air COntrol valve.), indeed a frequent problem.
I also understand you still have the original coil packs. In my case, shaking came from a burn that had developped inside the coil pack booth covering the spark plug...this because of stray exhaust that seeped though an unproperly tightened spark plug. THe trace has marked the spark plug...so if the problem persists, have a look at that too.

...and, just to be sure...you have used anti seize compound, haven't you...

Re: Ruff idle and slight shake !!!

You are the maaaann LMP I recall my spark plug number 4 which is a coil looked like the one in your pick with the rust colored line on it. It came out really easy so I know it was undertightened. Also there was oil around the base of the plug...I bet that coil is bad!!
Thank LMP
I will let you know if that takes car of it

Re: Ruff idle and slight shake !!!

The oil around base of plug #4 is frequently reported and reveals a leak in the cam cover gasket....I did have a slight trace of oil last time and deferred the change to "later"....but I know I'll have to do it, like a lot of others in SPortage forums. Also, I managed not to change the coil pack: just used a rounded file to gently remove all arcing trace from the booth...and it cleared the problem...for the time being.
