4.6L Tranny

Just got a 2000 GT in July and I've been pricing out what all I want to get and I was wondering if it was possible to get a 6 speed for the 4.6L mod motor. I read somewhere that you have to modify a couple things like the driveshaft to make it fit. Any one know?

Yes you can get the 6 speed for the 4.6L, it's nothing more than a 03/04 Cobra tranny. You will need their driveshaft, clutch disc and pressure plate, throwout bearing, clutch fork and shifter. You will need to swap the flange plate at the end of the driveshaft that bolts to the axle flange. It's pretty much a bolt in job. I did 7 of those swaps already.

Re: 4.6L Tranny

from a 2000 you should be able to re-use your 8 bolt flywheel and (maybe - but im not sure clutch components). i know a guy who swapped one in a 00 gt and he reused his spec2 from before when he had a t45. d&d has great kits with everything you need...you can even step up to a 00 cobra r spec or a viper spec 6spd if you dont want the regular 03/04 cobra one

Not all GT's came with 8 bolt flywheels... most came with 6 bolt flywheels.

Re: 4.6L Tranny

I think its only the windsor 4.6's that came with the 8 bolt. I know when I was about to buy a flywheel for my mustang I almost got the 6.... good thing I decided against getting one all together since when I had the tranny off and the clutch removed I could see clearly that it was an 8 bolt.
