Cracked cylinder head?
Hi. I own a 92 cutlass ciera with 146k miles, and the 3.3 V6 with the 3spd/od tranny. Engine does _not_ overheat.
The other day my resvoir bottle froze, but what was in the radiator at the neck only had a light coating of ice; i broke it just by pressing it with my pinky. After I took care of that and drained out the antifreeze and refilled it with the correct mixture, I heard a rhymthic air noise. Woosh-Woosh-Woosh. I didn't rev it up, but it sounds like it may or not be in time to the cylinders firing. It sounded like it was coming from behind the altenator, near or around the PCV valve. The thing that really stumps me though is that the sound only lasts for about 40 seconds, getting quiter during these 40 seconds. Until it goes away completly. The noise is only there when its cold, and I have no Oil or Coolant loss. And I dont feel any air leaking around there.. I'll try the PCV anyway, but what do you think im looking at folks? Pretty sure its not the belt, I replaced that and the altenator a few months back. Thanks in advance! |

Re: Cracked cylinder head?
probley moisture in the lifters causing the ticking sound at cold start ups.
How long ago was your last oil chnage? Injectors do alot of clicking (not ticking/taping) too, but thye'll click as long as the engines running. But if the resivour was froozen, you very well could hav cracked the block or a head. Ice is very expansive and can break steal internals with little effort. Good Luck
