Micro Sol & Micro Set

Which one's which? What do they do again?

Decal Solvent is for complex surfaces and Decal Set is for flat surfaces. Does anyone have a link to buy these or just the decal sol? I jst recently ran out after using it on my inished Ford Focus Rally (big a$$ decals and panel lines). Hope this helps Jay.

Micro Set is a mild decal setting solution to be used in most applications, where the decal isn't going over hard compound curves or edges. Micro Sol is a little stronger, it will soften the decal making it confrom to uneven surfaces. Just put a drop or two on the surface the decal is going onto, and you can brush some on top of the decal, if needed, to soften more. Both formula's work very well.

Micro Set is for surface prep under the decal so it goes on first then the decal.

Micro Sol is for softening the decal after it is in place. By the way Micro Sol is too strong for Tamiya's current decals. Try a hot steamy cloth on them.

The way I remember is the blue lettering/vinegar smell first, the odor-free/red lettering second. I have markers to mark the respective cotton swabs!

Both are necessary for Scale Motorsports decals. Solvaset is damned near too strong for anything, and Tamiya decals pretty much need water only, w/a soft cloth and maybe a touch of heat from a hairdryer. I'll have to try the steamy warm cloth, works well after Sushi so I guess it'll work well after Tamiya decals too!:silly2:

THink of it this way...

SET - used to set the decal in place... basically just that, can be used as surface prep too...

SOL/Softer - used to make it conform to non-flat surfaces..



I have Mr. Mark Setter , used for SETTING, there is Mr. Mark Softer which is used for the hard to conform surfaces.

I never use the Set - Blue one
I only use the Sol - Red one. I've found that Set doesn't affect the setting at all. That's why.

So red one it is and I also use it on flat surfaces, so it makes the decal stick better to the surface. for very complex curves like CF-interior panels etc. you'll have to use a lot of this stuff to make it really soften. Keep it wet is the message here.

I'm doing to do the complete front detail on the D2 C-Class DTM with CF-decal. I'll try to take pictures on the way, so you get a step-by-step guideline on how to do complex surfaces.

Ive only ever used the Blue bottle SET stuff as that was all i was told i would need as the SOL can soften decals to much and bugger them up
In most cases i brush SET all over the area the decal is going on and try and get it to stick as best as possible. If its not working i drag out the wifes hairdrier to sort it out
This model here would have to be the worse model for being a decal nightmare
The car is sprayed white and everything else is decals
The bumpers used SET and a hair drier and turned out pretty well.

So, as I understand it, Micro Sol (and it's peers) is a solvent that attacks the plastic decal carrier film to make it mushy enough to conform to odd shapes. Right?

I'm still not clear on what Micro Set actually is/does... Is it like decal kicker, to make the stick faster?

Pretty much so with the Sol from what i have heard.

The set is meant to soften the decal but no where as much as the Sol.
It helps bond the decal to the surface better .

I used Microset + Microsol on the Yamaha YZR in the gallery - it turned out pretty good. Word of wisdom, after you apply Micro Sol the decal will sometimes appear wrinkled, and it can be tempting to give it a nudge to straighten it out, but if you do then you will smear and ruin the decal. After it's dried the wrinkles will disappear, most of the time.

I bought a bottle of Micro-sol recently but haven't had the chance to use it , I wish I'd had it when I did my Hasegawa Corolla WRC as the decals were Cartograf screen-print ones and they were a right biatch and needed some gentle persuasion with a scalpel to sit right!
As 935k3 said Tamiya decals normally need a hot steamy cloth and they'll lay pretty well!
