Creeking in front end

I have a creeking in the front end of my 04 sedan. I was just wondering if anyone else has had a problem with the front end yet. It sounds like a stabilizer bushing.

I get a wierd scraping sound when I hit a bump that causes the front end to dip. Sort of like when the plastic piece undeneath would scrape if you came close to bottoming out. I can't imagine it's bottoming out because it does it on relatively small bumps. I've been too busy lately to bring it in.

That sounds like what I am hearing also. I looked at it last night and it does sound like the swaybar. I have not got it up on ramps yet but it sounds like the bushings mounting the swaybar to the frame are dry. I seems to be getting worse. I will get it in the air tomorrow and see what I can find. I do not think it will be hard to fix so I would rather do it my self rather than have the dealer screw it up like they usually do. I will keep you posted on what I find and what the fix was.

Re: Creeking in front end

It seems the creeking was coming from the vertical mounts on the rear of the lower A arm. I pulled the bolt out, cleaned it up, lubed with white lithium grease, and reinstalled. Drives like new again. i hope this is a perment fix. I will keep you posted.

My creeking stopped when the temperature got above the 30s. Guess I'll get it checked out next winter.

also creaking

hi
we have an aveo LS 2004 model hatch
we also have this creaking noise..we purchased in february'04 and it is still there. we have gone to the dealer time after time after time. first they said the struts were cracked and leaking..so they replaced those. we're now in the shop for what was told to us to be a strut mount that was binding. they've fixed that and the noise was still there. so now they are ordering a control arm for the steering..and they think that might do it.

basically we have had so many problems with our aveo
this issue has been ongoing for a year
also to add to it our neutral safety switch was adjusted, and then replaced because we kept getting locked in Park position on our AT
the abs brake module went out
we've had the keyless entry system fuse blow 5 times in a year
our rear driver lock doesnt open on occasion when using RKE
and we have a chirping/rattle in our dash, they attempted to fix this and failed, and in the process damaged our glove box
i just feel the overall craftmanship on this vehicle is below standards
ive inquired about buy back.. have been told by many service advisors and salesmen that it is an option, to contact GM customer service.. we've gone all the way to executive offices of Chevrolet, and nothing is going to be done for us. just keep going back with the problems until they are resolved.

anyone have any insight on this??!?!?!
im desperate for resources at this point

Re: Creeking in front end

I also have an 04 Aveo 5 with major creaks and groans from the front suspension - dealer has done everything GM will allow them to do and stiill the noises. Phoned GM "Customer Service(????)" and was told that I must keep taking it back until it is fixed no matter how inconvenient.....

Yesterday a factory technician drove it and said that the creaking and plastic scraping sound occurs on all 04 models and that is that - paying customer does no count in their eyes

Dealer was totally embarassed having to pass this onto me

My first and definitely the last GM piece of crap I will ever buy

Anyboidy have any suggestions?

Re: Creeking in front end

The creaking is in the vertical mounts at the rear of the lower A-arm. The dealers think I am an idiot but they have yet to fix it. I heard the 06's have an "updated front suspension". My sister and brother-in-law have two 05's that do the same thing. I have sprayed WD-40 on the bushings to prove it was them and they just looked at me and laughed. I am waiting until it is out of warranty and pulling the lower A-arms and filling the void areas (which is the problem due to them flexing and rubbing rubber to rubber) with urethane sealant which is what they are made of anyway. I wonder why GM is loosing so much market share. Hum?

Re: Creeking in front end

I am in Overland Park Kansas. I will be doing my A-arms in a month or so and I will try and document what I did and if it worked.

Re: Creeking in front end

I've got this problem as well, sounds like its happening to a lot of cars. Just wanted to document it, hope others post their problems as well. The dealer just said it was a normal sound. Is there something specific that I can tell them to do to fix it? I guess I expected more quality out of this car, but it was cheap. Still I wish Chevy would mimic some of the qualities of Honda and Toyota.

Re: Creeking in front end

your situation sounds like ours
we purchased my aveo 2/04 and we're still battling the same problem
but it seems to be getting worse. the noise is louder and scarier
it sounds like the whole car is going to crumble in the front end
do you notice any performance issues related? like increased wear on tires, alignment issues, or braking problems?
just wondering.
i love the aveo...but i sincerely believe mine is a pile of junk
i would give anything to get into a newer model... i should have known better than to buy the first year run of this
i could try a trade-in..but i bet then they will find the problem and knock a few thousand off the value with my luck

Re: Creeking in front end

One major thing about this car, the trade in value.

I have talked with two dealerships about getting out of this car into a newer nicer different make of car, they wanted to give me just 5k for the Aveo. ITS AN 05 FOR GODS SAKE! The first chance I have to get out of this car Im gonna jump on it, this car has no resale at all.......I like the car, but dam!

Re: Creeking in front end

Did someone actually expect a high resale value on a $10-15K car? EVERY car drops 25-40% the second you drive it off the lot. And a dealer will drop it lower than that so they can have a profit margin when they resell it. Lets say you buy a $12K car and it drops 40% the first minute. Your value is now $7,200. Take out a couple thousand for dealer profit in reselling (even if the car needed no repair, etc.) and you are down to $5,200 for a trade in.

If you want resale value, buy a 60s Mopar muscle car!
