Good Car Books?

Hey everyone, Im looking for some good books on cars, the workings of the engines, terms, etc. I have come up with a couple that sound good:
1) Road & Track Automotive Dictionary
2)How Cars Work by Tom Newton.

If you all have any that are fun to read, and teach a lot, let me know. I'm trying to gain knowledge in automotive design, history, and mechanics.

Thanks in advance: Gman422

Re: Good Car Books?

I bought a book a few years ago called "How To Customize Damn Near Anything" by the Monster Garage guys. It had some good info in there. I wonder what I did with it

Re: Good Car Books?

Well um, I got the book they gave me from UTI. I forgot how many pages, but its pretty damned thick, guessing about 500+ pages. Maybe search online for that, it was pretty detailed and you could learn a good deal about almost anything. The instructors called it our automotive bible when I was goin there.

Re: Good Car Books?

Oh, and check out Barnes and Nobles, just any huge bookstore, they'll have a little automotive area. I remember last year-ish I bought one for turbocharging, supercharging, and nitrous.

Re: Good Car Books?

lol, i see what you're sayin. i'm currently using that "huge ass" chemistry book.

Well, if you are willing to get rid of it, i'd love to take it off your hands. I searched everywhere for it and can't find it.

Re: Good Car Books?

I found a link to what looks like just about the book they gave us. The authors name is Tim Gilles. Maybe search around for that and find a good deal. I'd sell you mine for cheap but I'm not sure when the next time I'm going back to Houston (where the book is), but I'll let you know if I go before you end up buying a copy for yourself.

Re: Good Car Books?

*trying to kill the drug thread*

I never bought it but my class used 'Automotive Technology', other than that, I got a book from the library once that you could flip a page and find any of the fastest cars in the world (when the book was made) from speedy muscle cars to supercars

Re: Good Car Books?

It was a paperback oversized book, red and yellow front with car drawings and all the specs you'd want to know, It was in alphabetical order, showing car by car in it's brand category.
