ka24de swap turbo

ok as you all have known all my cars I ever get have ecu problems.. Well my 280 is fixed but.... Turns out it seems as though without the thermostat in the head temp puts the car into some sort of limp mode.....
But my 300zx (50th ann.) I still cant figure it out... seems to me maf... but I tried the maf out of a known good car (pulled tried reinstalled in other car it still ran great...)... Any way its come time to start to tear into that; as it seems as though I'm not going to figure it out any time soon...
What I came across the other day at the local bone yard (actually a friend as apposed to just a yard)... But what I found is a altima that just hit there that is 5 speed(motor ecu and harness)... Now all I need is a tranny to bolt to it; hmmm whats that over there; wouldn't you know it a nissan pickup 5 speed 2 wheel drive ka24e.... So I ran home and started plaguing ebay with my virus like raveging for what I can buy for a ka.... What I came up with was a set of 370cc injectors (good for low boost) not too large to tweek it to work on the stock ecu, A sard rising rate fpr, a top mount turbo header, and a jdm apexi safc; all for the low low price of $400....... So this weekend I'm goping to have my buddy send the altima over so I can remove every thing in my own garage; should make the swap a little easier.... I am currently the high bidder on a torn down t3; so I'll be able to slap the 50lb compressor and brand new chra and have a turbo to put on my 280 while my turbonetics turbo is rebuilt; funny you buy something to prevent problems relating to it, and it gives you problems anyway.... but since my 280 isn't going to be a street cruiser I'm able to swap this turbo on till I get a new good one.... Probably break in the motor on a shitty hybrid then buy a bigger turbo and megasquirt...

So anyway 1984 300zxt (ann ed) ka24de 5speed swap; with turbo conversion..... Should have enough power to put a smile since the fastest car I've driven in the last 6 months (other than a 10 mile 280 cruise) has been a 305 5 speed camaro (beats most civics (one gsr type r was about dead nuts...). Also the nissan should weigh less than before therefore better handling...

And to boot there are a total of 4 ka24de's and I can get them for probably 50 a piece...

Also I know you are all like you idiot... but now the honda boys can't blame it on the bigger motor.... So anyway
til next time same bat time same bat channel....

Re: ka24de swap turbo

Talk with the guys in the 240SX forum, there are a few of them that have turbo'd KAs that might be able to give you some pointers.

Re: ka24de swap turbo

As for swapping it into a Z31, I dont think they share any of the same engine mounting points. And the tranny mounts would be different. You would most likely need to fab up some new mounts and a custom driveshaft. Good luck.

Re: ka24de swap turbo

the ka's use the same transmission as the early vge's, with a different bellhousing, so i'm not sure if you'd need to fabricate mounts or not, or even a new driveshaft... the engine mounts most likely won't be the same tho..

Re: ka24de swap turbo

lets see here... manufacturing mounts... 1\4" steel + angle iron, + drill and bits+ welder = almost anything you could imagine...
Lets see from scrap we got a set of s10 v8 conversion mounts, a set of accent to tibouran motor and trany mounts (only needed 1 there), custom axle shafts (1\2 tibouran axle + 1\2accentaxle = custom axles) camaro th400 tranny mount, ladder bars, torsion arms, you name it we'll make it... Me and my buddies me all the frankensteins of the area... actually this weekend I'm getting the motor ... And I'm going to boost a crx and get the altima to run before its pulled... depending on how long that all takes (we aren' t startigtill 12 tomorrow) but if were done soon enough I'm going to slap the turbo manifold and injectors in and see how thew boosted ka will sound...

so anyway... Ill keep progress reports coming...

so till next time
