anyone personally run thornbirds?

I am wondering if anyone is currently running thornbirds. If i do decide to go with them (highly unlikely) what will work best on the 01 X. 30 x 11.5 or 31 x 11?

You should be able to run 31's. The only problem I could forsee is the agressive outside lugs rubbing, but I really don't know how far they stick out compared to a SSR. I have not heard of anyone who visits the Xterra boards using them, but there is one truck with a dual-exhaust somewhere in the "hall of shame" board using them.

Holy crap. That truck is hideous and those tires are just sad.

It's a great way to play Spot the Poseur though, kinda like those folk who insist on running with chrome bush bars and tailight guards.

My personal experience with "Thornturds" is that they are more "square" then Super Swampers! They are great like Chad said for Off-road use only! Same reason I don't use the Swampers as daily drivers! To flippin' rough for around town driving

Everything I have ever heard about "thornturds" are that they suck at everything and only excell at lightening your wallet. I think you will be happier with BFG MT's, GY MTR's, or Interco TrXus onroad and off.

Well after a weekend full of research into tires the local 4 x 4 clubs have recommended thornbirds for around here (canada). Everyone ssems to be having good luck with them. Just one question will the 31x11 fit with trimming. I know they run wide at 11.2" but is that including the outside lugs? Full diameter???

None of the 4x4 clubs here (Canada, Vancouver specifically) would pay $0.50 for them. You seem pretty determined to get them though, and in the end it's completely your choice. But there are many more tires that will give you a much better bang for your buck than Thornturds.

BC4x4.com's response to Thornturds, for example.

I agree with Jens. We've given you lots of info. Now it comes down to what you want. Let us know how they work out.

It seems a little weird how lots of people say they are terrible but round here they like them. Comes down to personal preference I guess.

50megs.com was blocking the linking to the Thornbird Xterra, so I uploaded it.

Alberta Canada. Round here it is a mix of just about everything from mountains, streams, sand, mud, swamp, etc.

sounds like a few people have bought them and then convinced everyone else that they are worthy. I have been on tons of 4x4 boards with people from across North America and I have yet to see a good review of those tires.

but i will almost guarantee you that you will have SERIOUS rubbing issues with those condor bills of a side lug. you are going to chew up your fender and rub the hell out of your front torsion bar anchors.
