05 Mustang;to buy or not to buy?

Hi.I am a thirty something year old Mom who has never owned anything remotely sporty.I love my ford f150 truck (175,000+ miles),so when looking for a used car,I have begun to look towards the 05 mustang.I haven't test driven one yet.I am tall, almost 6 ft and heavy ; is it comfortable for big people? I live in the southeast so there is NO snow.I am looking for something pretty basic, around $16,000-$17,000. Is this a good price or would it be better to go "new"? Would you guys reccommend the 05 mustang to me,just the basic model? Is it a great car? The 1998-2004 mustangs are on several "best used car bets" lists.Any input very much appreciated.

See link below for example of what I have been looking at:

P.S.I had a ford taurus for years but did not like it (too many major repairs). It almost ruined me on fords in general.

Great car!

As for your size, I do not think that will be an issue. A guy in my shop who is 6'6" 300lbs sat in one, and said it was a good fit, considering how big he is.

Re: 05 Mustang;to buy or not to buy?

mine has tons of room, but its a 2000. from what i hear though the 2005+ models have more room so you should be fine. im 6' tall. mustangs in general have been pretty reliable, mine has. the 05 should be fine but i dont honestly know because they havent been around long. my guess is it would be reliable though, just going on the history of mustangs. the base model or the v8 model depend on what your looking for. if you want decent power with better gas milage then get the base. if you want more power and less gas milage get the v8.

to room will be ok for you as for the basic engine - the v-6 in these models is quick jsut horsepower is better that many of the older v-8 models. and great cars for the money.

Although the power is better than before I wouldn't go as far as to say that it has more than any GTs...not in the last 20 years anyway.

Re: 05 Mustang;to buy or not to buy?

I am actually probably more into the MPG than the power of it.I think the 05-07 Mustangs are really sharp.I guess it appeals to the "good old days" factor.I am now trying to figure out the going prices for just a base model 05.It looks to be anywhere from $15,000 and up,depending on miles, options and condition [certified or not, etc].Thanks for the info!!

Re: 05 Mustang;to buy or not to buy?

if you get one of the 05-07s, you need to get a V-8, the new 4.0 motors are completely garbage, if you want something cheap with a V-6 get a 99-04 (new edge) with the 3.8, those were bullit proof once they fixed the head gasket problem mid year 96

Re: 05 Mustang;to buy or not to buy?

Try something a bit older, the 05's don't fit the perspective of a lady, but that's my opinon. Try maybe a 96-04. They look better than the 05's. If you really want to look good, try to find a cheap 65-68. There rare to find cheap but there good looking cars.
