Now that I've replaced my resistor pack & the problem still exists;
DOES ANYBODY KNOW "WHERE" THE BLOWER MOTOR IS? & "HOW" DO I GET TO IT? |

If it's like my 99, it's buried under the dash on the passenger side. It's in a cylindrical casing behind the glove box. Check for voltage at the blower motor plug that should be behind the glove box. The voltage check was off from what the Haynes manual said on mine but voltage was there. I don't remember what the readings were, but they changed values with the different fan positions. You don't want to be changing that motor & find out you had a bad relay or wiring problem. Had them test my new motor when I bought it just to be sure. You have to pull the dash almost all the way out to get to it...if it's like my 1999. Was a real pain in the butt. You will be taking the casing apart & removing the old motor from the fan that it turns & installing your new motor onto it. The one I got from Carquest was only $55 & worked stronger than the old one. It did not come with a plug like the old motor & I had to cut the wires of the old one at the fan shroud & put in a couple of crimp splices. Leave lots of wire to work with as working room is a problem. Take your time & make sure the splices are solid as you will not want to go back in there again if you don't absolutely have to. Good luck. If you don't cuss...you're going to learn on this job. Last edited by steelerguy; 10-12-2006 at 03:08 PM. |

Re: 98 Durango Blower Motor
Thanks, I'm taking my dash apart this weekend.
The problem I had was that the fan would only work on high before it crapped out & it would suddenly start running whenever I opened the windows at highway speed. I guess the sudden change in pressure in the truck would get the motor spinning enough to work for a while & then would crap out again as soon as I slowed down or stopped. Now it doesn't work at all. I replaced the resistor pack (had a hard time finding that too), that was not the problem, but it was the easiest of the two jobs. So here I go, I'll let you know how it worked out. |

Re: 98 Durango Blower Motor
How did the replacement of the blower motor go?
I have the same year and replacing the resistor did nothing. |
