My Car refused to start!!

Earlier today, I stopped at McDonalds for lunch and when I tried to start my car, it wouldn't start. Not even turn over. I knew the battery was fine and the starter too and after a moment I noticed the flashing security light. I also remember reading about a key relearn. So I sat there for a while (15 min) and tried starting it every few minutes. Contacted onstar (remote diagnostics apparently is only good if you have the engine on). I tried to find a passlock fuse, but didn't see one in the manual. Finally, my dad came to pick me up and boom . It started as soon as I twisted the key. This is the 1st time I ever had this happen in the 1 yr i've had my car. Do you guys think this might happen again? Is there a way to prevent it? Just in case it does happen again, could someone please repost the keylearn procedure details? Thanks for all your help. Oh yeah, I have an 01 GLS with 67,3xx miles on it.

Re: My Car refused to start!!

You should not be feeding your car fast food. -Poor little fella.

I just replaced my battery yesterday. The battery just totally died, -confirmed with a load tester and charger also. Very little hint of a bad battery before this. Car is a 2000 so the battery ~6 years old. Would not even start with charger set at 50amps and charging battery for a few hours.

I know it isn't my battery. It has no problem signs, at least from what I can tell. True, I haven't hooked up a voltometer, but it seems to be a security issue.

Re: My Car refused to start!!

Did you figure out your start problem on your Olds? My '99 Intrigue (78K miles) has done this several times. System has a 20 min. security reset, after which time is starts just fine. Can't figure out what is causing this, or how to shorten the 20 min. reset time. If you have learned anything, please pass it along. Thanks!

Re: My Car refused to start!!

I had this problem last year. It all started when my car would be "on" but not turned over. Ignition lights all on and high blower running from vents. This happened twice and drained my battery. I bought a battery buddy device to shut everything down and keep enough charge in the battery to start the car. However, this is where I had the security light problem.

Long story short, I bought an Optima Yellow top battery. I have had no problem since. My old Interstate Megatron was on the outs after 5 years. I have had no such problems.

Yeah, get use to it. It's the PK2 security problem everyone is having on here. There's a way to bypass it. Look up my other posts on this issue. It's not too hard if you have a little common sense.

Re: My Car refused to start!!

Get an 8mm open end or box wrench. I keep one in the middle console for the battery posts. Whenever the car is quirky just undo the battery cable and wait a few minutes.

That's fine but doing so is just a temporary fix. It'll get bad enough it won't start at all.
