Fuel filler tube leaking (SES light)

I recently had some service done on my van for several reasons, one being the SES (some expensive service) light was on. One problem they fixed that day, but the service engine light was caused from a fuel filler tube leak. They had to order the part so couldn't fix it that day. I paid them for the diagnostics and said I'd replace the tube myself. They said there was a crack in the tube causing a slow leak. But once I had the old one off I think the bigger leak was in the smaller vent tube that runs along the filler tube. It was so rusted that when I removed it from the rubber hose most of it stayed inside the hose. No service engine light since the swap. Just wanted to share my experience and hope it helps someone else down the road.

Re: Fuel filler tube leaking (SES light)

Year is 1998. It drives mostly in eastern Wisconsin. So yes lots of salt in the winter.

Re: Fuel filler tube leaking (SES light)

P0440 Evap malfunction and P0442 Evap small leak. They also found P0172 system too rich. Which ended up being a gunked up idle air control valve. That's the main reason it was in for service because it would no longer idle. Same thing that happened to my Saturn a few months earlier but that one I fixed myself with help from the Saturnfans forum.
