Question Any Honda Techs In The House?

Anyone out there whose got oodles of honda experience or just wants to read this thread and see if they can help out, well go for it

Ok my engine normally drives fine. Starts good, idles normally, runs strong. However, and this happens completely randomly, yet has become a little more frequent lately after header/intake install, my car will drop almost to 0 rpms, bounce back up to where it was, drop again, and then resume like nothing happened.

I dont know what it could be. It sounds like an electrical problem to me. The alternator is good. Any help? Any comments at all greatly appreciated.

Thanks

i sure hope this only happens while you are sitting at idle. i would check to make sure your coil is within spec and that the fuel pump is within spec. the first job is figuring out whether it is fuel or spark. pull out the plugs to see if any of them appear fouled, and check the wires to make sure none of them are giving more resistance than they should.

i dont think its an ignition or fuel problem. if it was i would have problems with the car stalling. It doesnt stall, just goes really low on the rpms. I think the ecu is going into safe mode, cuz its getting whack reading from an 02 sensor or a loose/damaged/frayed wire is grounding out.

Keep the responses comin

I talked to a Honda Tech and he said that a lot of times Modified Honda's 02Sensor will go out. Do you ever get a flash of a check engine light or anything?

no thats the weird thing. I dont get a check engine light. It happens and then thats it.

THe car requires premium gas. Does this sound like a problem that perhaps could be caused by shitty gas. Ive filled up at a no-name cheapo place last 2 times and occurances have become much more frequent.

Thanks for all your comments.

i guess to solve the gas question, the answer would be to switch back to a good gas company and see if the problem goes away. i dont think the ecu is going into safe mode, otherwise it would not happen more than once while the car was turned on. my understanding is that if the ecu puts itself in safe mode it throws on the check engine light and does not get out of it until its reset. im assuming you dont have an AT cause you drive an SH, and to my knowledge those only come in manual, otherwise i would say look at your tranny fluid. if this happens while driving too, how fast are you going, and what do you do to stay alive? if its a stick, then 0 revs means the car is not moving anymore. strange problem. good luck.

staying alive?

staying alive?

ive mentioned in another thread that my tach goes nuts when u get on the gas hard. i think the tach is another problem all in itself. the wheels dont lock up or anything, i just lose power then it resumes. ive heard that the car will drive shitty with bad gas. as soon as i refill with good stuff ill letchall know how it worked. until then another other suggestions are welcome.
