Taurus Engine Removal
I am Thinking about swaping the engine myelf on my 97 Taurus. I have removed replaced engines several times in F-150's and mustangs but never in a FWD car. If I choose to do it I will buy a manual ofcourse but could someone let me know if it is alot harder?
Do I need to remove the Transaxle? What else will be different since its FWD? Electronics and such are no big deal. Just looking for specifics regarding the FWD system. Thanks |

Re: Taurus Engine Removal
Pull both driveshafts out, undo the 4 bolts that hold the subframe, and its there in the open. Piece of cake. As for the manual, what motor do u have now and what would u be putting in it?? U would have to put in a clutch peddle. As for the transaxle, ford drops the subframe as should u motor comes with it, all in one nice little pacage.

Re: Taurus Engine Removal
When u drop the subframe it comes out the bottom of the vechile, have to disconnect the shock towers. Pull out both driveshafts and disconnect the 4 bolts that hold the subframe to the rest of the car. (my wagon only had 3 :22yikes: ) Then lift the front of the car and wheel the whole assembly out from underneth it, peice of cake when compared to taking it out of the top.

Re: Taurus Engine Removal
Pain in the ass to get out from the top, Mark all of the wires and hoses, pull the CV shafts and drop the subframe. If you have a digital camera, take pictures along the way, it will save a lot of time. good luck. michael

Re: Taurus Engine Removal
i have a 2000 Taurus that i need to swap the engine out. i have to do this in my garage so space is limited. i've done RWD vehicles, but this is my first FWD. what's the easiest way to remove the motor through the top because through the bottom is not an option for me?
thanks |
