Aftermarket DVD System
I am in the process of hooking up a aftermarket DVD system and i need a little bit of help with the wiring. There is only four wires to hook up so it should not be two bad. The first two that a hook up are the power and the ground for the overhead docking station. these i can deal with. the next two that i hook up are the for the door positve and the door negative switch. Now correct me if i am wrong but do these vans not work a little bit differntly. these last two connectios are for a set of lights on the overhead docking station that are supposed to work with the interior lights on the van. now am i gonna be screwed for these two lights or is there a way i can hook them up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Aftermarket DVD System
Jonas,
Without knowing the brand of DVD player, seeing installation instructions, & a schematic, its kind of hard to figure out what to do with it. I don't really know what "door positive & negative" mean. I would assume you are putting the display in to REPLACE one of your overhead dome lights - so you will be "sacrificing" that light if you cannot connect the lights in the display? Would it be acceptable to do that? I would need more information before trying to give you further advice. Take Care,

Re: Aftermarket DVD System
Well the van never came with a dvd player so i am adding this system. there is four wires that have to be hooked up. My + and - connections that go to the battery. those are simple enough to hook up. These two wires connect the dvd player to power and they also connect the lights on the dockings station so that they can turn on with the switch on the docking station. Now the other two wires are the ones that i am having trouble with. they are suposed to go to the door switch + and the door switch - so that the lights come on when you open the doors. i tried just splicing them into the curtesy lights that are at the front of the van or the map lights i guess they would be called. When i did this it blew the fuse(and yes i checked to make sure they were connected to the positive and negative on the light itself, i bekieve they were pink and white.] but when it blew the fuse the docking lights would work with the doors before i replaced the fuse. When i replaced the fuse with one size bigger just to see if i was adding on to the curcuit i needed a bigger one, the fuse would not blow but the lights on the docking station were really dim so i knew i was not doing something right here. now i am assuming that i am either hooking up to the wrong wires and maybe i need to find a smaller voltage circiut? anyways i hope you can help if not thank you for taking the time to reply.

Re: Aftermarket DVD System
Maybe you could ask the "Installation guys" at the place where you got it (or somewhere that installs these things)? Of maybe do a search for the same information in google?
Just a thought. Take Care,

Re: Aftermarket DVD System
Well i bought it from Canadian Tire which is a automotive parts store so they would not have a clue in there this i know from first hand experience, if it is not a question about where it is on the shelf don't even ask. Maybe i will try looking around the net to see what i can find. thanks for your time
