Cam Synch / TDC for #1 Cylinder on Vulcan
I replaced the Camshaft Position Sensor shaft on my 2001 Taurus Vulcan engine but apparently didn't get it lined up correctly. I now have the alignment tool to do the job but cannot for the life of me figure out how to get #1 cylinder to TDC. Supposedly, there are marks on the crankshaft damper next to the serpantine belt pully but mine is rusty and they are so faint, I cannot see them. I did see a pinkish/faded red mark painted on the damper and thought it might indicateTDC for #1 but after lining it up with the arrow and reinstalling the shaft, the engine still misses badly. I am lining the sensor up at exactly 38 degrees off the centerline of the engine as recommended by the Haynes repair manual but still can't get it to run right so I think I'm still not getting the engine at TDC for #1. Any help would be appreciated.
