Boost is better (Or: Why I very much desire to go into debt)

No, Cassie did not get boosted.

Yes, I drove a nice turboed car yesterday. Yes, it was pretty damned quick. Yes, I want it BAD. Yes, it was a BMW.

I was sitting at the dealership the other day, waiting for them to swing my car around. I was wandering around the dealership, looking at the two Ms, inside, the new M5 and the new M Coupe...that Z4 looks so sexy with a hard top. In person it looks like a refined 350Z.

So I made my way outside to look at two '04 M3s they had sitting around, and from behind me, I heard it; the familiar, raspy voice of a car salesmen. He saw two college age kids, at a dealership, looking at M3s, and assumed he had an easy sale.

"It could be yours right now!"

I looked back, chuckled, and said "Naw, I don't have the cash, but hopefully soon."

"You could lease."

"I'm stuck in a lease now, I'm never leasing again."

"What if I could get you outa that lease and into, say, a 335i coupe?"

"That wouldn't be too bad, I'm looking right now at a Bimmer coupe or a G35 Coupe."

"Ya mean a 'G I just spent 35 Thousand on an Altima?" That made me laugh, I'm not gonna lie...

So I let him do the whole saleseman thing, telling me about BMW's leasing set up and how he could get me out of the lease and into any car on the lot, mostly any 3 they had. So after a few minutes, he goes "ya wanna drive one?"

At this point I ask him what the catch is, because last year a Subby dealership wanted me to go through a credit report and put down a secuirty deposit before letting me test a WRX, but this guy is gonna drop me into BMWs newest sports coup with nothing else. He says nothing, and that he's gonna get the keys, and be right around. Brings it around, and damn, that 335i looks nice...

Anyways, he drives it first, out to the north side of town where there were some very twisty nice roads. Interior was very spacious for coupe, sound system was nice, and the interior was set up well. Had a very nice ride quality, as well, not a ton of road noise, very smooth. All in all, everything you would expect from a BMW. Very plush and comfy.

Then I decided not to bore you with bullshit about the ride quality or seats comfort level or the sound system.

The car itself was a Sparkling Graphite Metalic, black leather, brushed aluminum trim. It had the sport package, and the paddle shifters with the steptronic tranny. Just had to get that outa the way.

Anyways, I'm pulling outa the parking lot at a small country store on some nice back roads, and as I'm pulling out, he tells me to go ahead and really work it out. So as I straighten out from teh turn, and punch it. NO LAG! The tach and speedo just snap up as I rocket up to sixty in five point three seconds, clicking the shift paddle up into second, still pulling clean, up to eighty when we come up on our first sweeper. I break, bringing the speed down just a bit, downshift, then floor it as I pull clean through the sweeper.

The car had no role, no understeer or nothing, just pulled clean through the turn. It tucked in to the turn, and just begged to go faster, so I did.

Came out of the sweeper, back on the throttle, pushing up past eighty, that turned into ninety, and I hit 100 on that little back stretch. Comming into another sweeper, didn't even let off, just held it right at the century mark all the way through the turn. Let off, gravity bringing the car back down to a more resonable speed as it came into a sharper turn. I was comming down to sixty, and about to break, when the salesman told me not to break, just let gravity do it. I did, and the car held the revs at just under red line, keeping it right where I wanted it to be when I punched it again.

Basically, the entire test drive was full of this.

Musashi once said that the 350Z was like a guided missile in a world full of MOABs. The 335i Coupe, on those harsh backroads, was just as precise. Then we got it out on the highway.

On the open black top, the Bimmer was just as versatile, the car pulled clean, the ride was smooth, very confidence inspiring. The car beged to be pushed out there, and moving around traffic was a breeze, but the salesman could tell I wanted more than just that, so again, he told me to stretch it out. The car pulled clean straight to 130 when he told me I might wanna back it off just a bit, so I did, with a huge grin on my face. We turn around, head back, and I get a touch of city driving in.

On the backroads, the ride was precise and clean, on the highway it was a monster, smashing the pavement with its acceleration. In the city, it was smooth and quiet, with all the manerisms befit of a fine European automobile.

So, where the 350Z was the guided cruise missle in a world of MOABs, this was the 2000lb GPS guided Bunker Buster. Powerfull, sleek, and hard hitting while also precise and sleek, capable of doing any mission you task it with. Basically, I am now willing to go into tremendous debt to take delivery of this vehicle.

And ya wanna know what the best part about it is?

Its all ready boosted....

(insert devil smiley here)

I heard those new 335's are badass, and you just confirmed it.

This guy that works at a BMW dealership said it was a blast to drive, on par with the E46 M3's.

He sold 2 the first day they came onto the lot.

If you're still in college, hold off on getting into any more debt. Just wait till you have a full-time job.

For your motivation bank: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...t=31578&page=2

And here's a stock 335i vs a stock E46 M3 6-speed: http://media.putfile.com/m3-vs-335i

The 335i driver didn't know his car too well yet, although if you get what's presented in the first link, it wouldn't matter.

Personally, I'd wait on the 135ti: http://paultan.org/archives/2006/08/...35ti-spyshots/

Same exact motor (NO detuning) in a MUCH lighter car...

Re: Boost is better (Or: Why I very much desire to go into debt)

Those cars are dynoing around 280whp, so it's fairly evident that BMW is underrating them big time. They'll run with a M3, and I won't even get into how much more potential it has then them, being boosted and all.

Too bad they are soo expensive. I can't see spending $40K for a car at your age. Then again I dunno, maybe your job pays extremely well.

I've been hearing great things about them as well. I would consider one for my next car too if it wern't for what I've been hearing about the E92 M3. I'll be interested in just how much power they manage to get out of the biturbo engine.

Re: Boost is better (Or: Why I very much desire to go into debt)

well a twin turbo will do that to you, make you jump for joy and right into debt. I'd say go with Claws advise and wait till you get a good full time job. Plus being the 1st year for the car let them work out the kinks and go for a 2nd year with a bigger down on it.
