Angry Alternator

I had enough. I'm going to change the alternator in my 3.5 Intrigue. The question is where can I get one that will work this time. I don't want to buy one and have same problems again later on. Plaase I need an advise where to get a new GOOD alternator and how much it will cost me.
Thanks

Re: Alternator

Hi
Unfortunately I think you are going to pay a pretty good bundle $150+ no matter where you buy. I personally am fairly happy with NAPA most of the time. They should have a selection for you, and you can carry it back in if it fails.

Good Luck

Re: Alternator

GM #10464469

GMpartsdirect is cheaper by almost $100 on this part number than the Rock. Rockauto has Intrigue alternators starting at $150 (+$60 core) and up. It seems the prices on these alternators is on the up.

If you can get one at Napa for $200 you are doing well. But then again, when I was thinking about the Bosch unit at Napa, they wanted $650-800 (this is really $450 + $100 core a year ago = still a ton, I made a joke about it to them.)

GM PART # 10464469
CATEGORY: Alternator
PACK QTY: 1 CORE CHARGE: $36.00
GM LIST: $415.36
OUR PRICE: $215.99 (this is a fair price, but it was ~$170 before = price is going up)

Re: Alternator

I got a remanufactured one (duralast)from autozone.com for about $130 plus another $35 core charge. I got a new alternator because the original one failed at 125,000miles. I had the classic randomly dimming headlight problem before the replacement. The new alternator did not fix this, but it was not the reason for the change. Be pepared to waste a Saturday installing it. Make sure your battery is good an fully charged as to not burn out the new unit.

Re: Alternator

On 1999-2001 vehicles built before the VIN breakpoints, replace the generator with a revised generator, P/N 10464469, that has circuitry to inhibit the voltage regulator reset condition. The older alternator part number had a field that collapsed supposedly.

Do a search on the home page of this Intrigue forum for "alternator" = 3 pages of problems due to the Intrigue alternator. = One of the most common Intrigue problems that at one time was unfixable. The Bosch alternator (early fix) was $450+$100 core from Napa one year ago. #10464469 was $138+ ~$60 core one year ago from GMpartsdirect.
