Seeing as Christmas is coming up....

I was checking out eBay whilst in a lull at work and came across this -

Part of XP5 luggage set - but it's a bit too rich for me already

Custom painted 1/18 scale Davidoff Short tail

And the Lark #60 F1, again in 1/18 - yummy

Frank Muller F1 in 1/18

And if only the paint finish was better on this....

So, what's on your Mclaren wishlist for Christmas off eBay?

Well, I thought it would go for more, but I won it!!! I should get it before Christmas!! It's the first piece of F1 memorobilia I have bought, and what a way to start, a piece of XP5's luggage

Re: Seeing as Christmas is coming up....

I picked it up from the Post Office first thing this morning and have just opened it up - Its exacty as I remember when I saw #013's luggage set; a nice little monogramed 'F1' symbol on the right hand side, and true to their word it has 'XP5' embossed directly under the handle[something I don't rmember from my #013 visit]. It's in a 'used' state, but for £300.00 I can't complain as It's a unique purchase that must only increase in value were my son ever to sell it (Yes, I bought it for me but I won't sell it in my lifetime, and all my 100+ models in all scales will be his eventually.....).

I'll add pics later when I am at home

Re: Seeing as Christmas is coming up....

You can just make out the F1 badge and XP5 embossing under the handle

and here are the shots that accompanied the auction; the LM3 car cover is now back with the car, and one of the other cases (the one in bubble wrap) has been offered to me. It's in brand new condition, unused and going for £1000.00 (!). I'm not sure which F1 the torque wrench belonged to, but I may know a little later

Re: Seeing as Christmas is coming up....

Congrats on the purchase! Does anyone know if XP5 has another set of luggage currently with it (2nd edition maybe?)?

Re: Seeing as Christmas is coming up....

I never realised when I saw #013 that the luggage would have the chassis number on it somewhere - if you look at the first and fourth pics of the ones I took you can just see the '13' embossed under the handle

Does anyone know why the colours differ? Could it have been the original owners choice? or did it have to tie in with the original colours of the car (seeing as #013 had a red stripe on its doors)

You learn a new thing every day on here! (or remember a new thing, I can't remember if it has been pointed out before)

EDIT - I watched a Quentin Wilson piece on youtube this afternoon and he states that the luggage is emboseed with the cars chassis number on there

I have just been reliably informed by someone who really should know the answer ( ), that the colour on the luggage set colour normally matched the colour of the leather / alcantara accents used on the drivers seat - red insert on drivers seat for #013 therefore red colour on the luggage, XP5 had green alcantara accents on the drivers seat hence the green on my suit carrier - as can be seen below

On this point, the luggage was definitely able to be custom matched to the owner's preference. On chassis #068 there were some sections of purple leather in the folds of the driver's seat that carried over to the band near the handle on the luggage set just like you show on your piece from XP5.

I seem to recall that Roger's detailed pics of chassis #071 show the luggage finished very similar to the interior treatment too.

Re: Seeing as Christmas is coming up....

Erik!

#068 -

#071 (I don't seem to have a pic of the luggage for #071, so I have added a pic of the luggage space trimmed in the same colour as the bulk of the drivers seat)
