Angry ignition switch

Hello. I need some help with replacing an ignition switch in a 95 trans am. The switch will not turn at all. It will unlock the steering wheel but not turn to start the car or backwards for accessory. I have tried to wiggle the steering wheel and make sure that does not keep it from turning. also I have checked the geer shift to make sure it is in park, the key will not unlock the transmission to change geers. I have done this on a non air bag vehicle but not one with an air bag. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Re: ignition switch

I guess maybe I called it the wrong thing. I need to replace the part the key goes in. If you can help me there I would appreciate it.

Re: ignition

Let me try this one more time. I need to replace the part where you stick the key in the column. Maybe it is just called the ignition. It is not the switch down in the column itself. I need to take off the steering wheel and go down through there I guess. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks to the help I already have received that I asked for on the wrong part. If I would call it the right thing it would probably help. Thanks again for the help.

Re: ignition switch

WELL JUST AN UPDATE. THE REASON THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN WAS THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS FROZEN AND LOCKED. THE ROD WOULD NOT SLIDE THE PART IN THE SWITCH TO MAKE CONTACT. THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THIS THREAD WORKED LIKE A CHARM. THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL THE HELP. MY DAUGHTER IS HAPPY AGAIN.... FOR A WHILE.
