Art Center Classic '06 - July 16th, 2006
Peloton, you going this year? Hear about anything interesting? Anyone else planning on going to this car show at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California? I don't think Gordon Murray is coming this year, and I haven't heard of any McLaren F1s scheduled to be displayed, but it is still an excellent event for car enthusiasts.

Re: Art Center Classic '06 - July 16th, 2006
I'm 90% there, and only for one reason. One of my childhood dream cars will be in attendance, a car that was featured on my bedroom wall in poster form for many years, and it's one of the few that I've never had the opportunity to see in person before.
![]() ![]() I'm sure there will be plenty of other things to see too, but that's the only one I have heard about that has me excited about going. I'm also going to see if I can find someone to speak with about getting a taped copy of Gordon Murray's speech from last year. tvrfreak had been trying to procure a copy for us, but it never worked out. Hopefully I can corner someone in person who's willing to help with that cause. ![]() >8^) ER |

Hey, I have driven that car, along with the yellow convertible that was for sale a couple of years ago! I knew Claudio Zampolli fairly well, at one time. Nice, low-key fellow. You know that the name is from his initials, right, pronounced 'chey' and 'zeta' in Italian. The other half of the name, Moroder, comes from the investor who made his money writing musical scores for movies.
This was my favourite car for a while. I had a nice poster of a white one that was included in some car magazine, Road and Track I think. Incidentally, there's a black one on display at the Marconi Museum, which is open to the public and has no admission fee. You should go there sometime, it's not far from you and it has some really great cars! Just call ahead to make sure the museum is not booked for a private function on the day you want to go. It's in Tustin, not too far from Los Angeles. Enjoy the Art Center show, and if you see tvrfreak, say hi to him for me! |

Erik, have you pre-ordered the book on the Cizeta? I have. If you don't know what i'm talking about, shoot me a pm and i'll tell you. I'm sure you do though. I saw the red one at Concorso 5 or 6 years ago (only year i've gone so far
) and an ex-Brunei black one in bits. Interesting cars

That's sweet that you got to drive them Monster, and I do know the basics on the car's history. It wil be great to finally see one up close.
I heard about the Cizeta book - Jet-X mentioned it to me even before he announced the pre-sales - but haven't orderd a copy yet. It's on my to-do list for sure. >8^) ER |

Re: Art Center Classic '06 - July 16th, 2006
Back in the early nineties I was in Italy and visited Sant Agata on the off chance to see if there were any interesting cars hanging around. I was in a cafe and started talking with a local guy, a photographer who shot many of the official Lamborghini photos. To cut a long story short, I spent a day with him and Claudio Zampoli taking pictures of what I believe was chassis number 3, a blue Cizeta destined for, you guessed it, the Sultan of Brunei. I have about 50 slides and photos of this car which I could scan and share if anyone's interested. I'm not aware this car has been photographed before. To cap a perfect day, Valentino Balboni turned up at the cafe with some Diablo prototype covered in duct tape and proceeded to tell some great stories over an expresso.
Update: here's a scanned photo - apologies for the quality.

I can guarantee you there are many people who'd like to see your shots, including me. The fact that this blue Cizeta was one of the Sultan's cars, makes it even more rare. So yes, I'm interested and looking forward to see what you'd like to share with us.
Edit: what ELSE you'd like to share. This first shot is amazing. Thanks! Cheers, Bucciali |

Peloton, I'm surprised that you've never seen a Cizeta before considering it's shown up at CC a few times. I actually got to see Claudio himself reving the car up at CC but unfortunately a RAC quickly put a stop to it due to noise complaints (which ironically resulted in about 200 people booing and hissing). I think it might have been the day that Balboni came to CC for the first time.

For starters Jimmyc, it goes without saying that I would love to see the rest of your blue Cizeta photos. That's a great story and quite an amazing chance encounter. There are a few photos of the blue car in the new book that is being released - probably taken by your impromptu friend the photographer, but prior to that I had never seen any.
Malka - I've never been down to Crystal Cove unfortunately. It's about 90 miles away from me and I'm not much of a morning person when it comes to the weekends. I'd have to leave my house by about 5:30 to get down there on time and knowing my luck it would be a weekend where nothing really special made an appearance. I'm sure I would still enjoy it, but that's a long way to go when I could be catching up on my much needed beauty sleep. >8^) ER |

Re: Art Center Classic '06 - July 16th, 2006
I'm curious about this new book, if the blue photos were taken in a field, it's highly likely I was standing next to the photographer when they were taken! The best photos are on slides so I'll need to get them transferred to digital.
Regarding the Diablo prototype, sorry no photos - I just stood there with my mouth open. I think it was in 93 so the prototype was perhaps a VT. I also got a trip to the EB110 factory in Campogalliano the next day - but wasnt'allowed to take photos - the (unbelievably goodlooking!) PR lady did however give me a lovely book on the EB110. Just one of those normal days in paradise! ![]() ![]() Sorry about hijacking a Mclaren forum Erik! |
