ZC performance?

Ok, just bought a 91 CRX SI here in Germany, going to take all of the goodies out of it and put it in my 89 sedan, including gauges and such, I have all the regular mods intake, exhaust, header, MSD and such what should be my next performance mods? I am putting in all new gaskets, timing belt, and redoing all the valve lash etc. Just wondering what would be the best performance mod? I was thinking cams then an intake manifold but I KNOW you guys/gals have more knowledge than I do so whatcha think?

Re: ZC performance?

your on the right track....intake, exhaust, and header...but not MSD you dont need it and it will only make things worse for you...but next mod I would do would be CAM if you dont have to smog it....also what motor you doing this to so we can get an idea here....if I where you I just do a mini-me swap on car....

you dont need msd. if you are worried about ignition get some nology hot wires and some denso iridium plugs. is this the dohc zc or the single cam?

Re: ZC performance?

It is a DOHC motor 1.6 out of a european spec 91 CRX SI. As far as the MSD I have been running it on my 89 SOHC for about two years and run it almost everyday on the autobahn at 115-120 and still get 27 miles to the gallon, is it different on the DOHC?
Anyways, I think cams would be the best thing as well but I heard of type R cams but not sure what it is, just want the most performance still being streetable, need it to be dependable! Thanks again

Re: ZC performance?

Type R cams would be for a 1.8L b-series engine which you do not have. The reason why people say you don't need an MSD ignition for your Honda is because it really doesn't do anything for it. The only positive I can see is theoretically, you're getting better mpg because the high spark ignition is cleaning your block of unwanted carbon build up. That is the marketing bs that I remember from the product statements. There was a dude on here who had an avatar with the first Rage Against the Machine album cover that was a dohc zc guru. He would strip them down and build them up. Now he drives an Audi A4 and doesn't really post on here anymore. 1PhatCX (Derek)... who also doesn't post on here much anymore... used to have a dohc ZC in his hatch and would make outrageous claims of beating mustangs etc. I know the ZC has potential with i/h/e and head work but most people say it's not worth the time...
