I have a 97 Grand Prix GT(3.8L)(150,000 mile) with a lot of problems lately. I just replaced the ignition switch and the starter, but now it won't start after sitting for a while. If I jump the car, it starts instantly. I can then drive around for a bit, turn it off, and it'll start up like new everytime. However, when I leave it for a bit..it won't start again. It has the clicking sound like the battery is dead. But if the battery was dead, it wouldn't start so quickly when being jumped. Any suggestions???

Re: 97 Grand Prix Starting Problems
Get the battery tested or replace it first. It is starting so quickly when jumped because it is not holding a charge.

i have the same problem man. recently my alternator went bad so my battery wasnt being charged properly i think it took its toll on the battery. if the car sits for a few days it hesitates or needs to be jumped to start but when jumped it starts right away. but if i listen to music with the car not running while im cleaning it or whatever the battery dies after like 3 songs. its definetly your battery they are like 66 bucks at autozone with a lifetime warranty try and get one with higher CCA then stock youll be better if you have colder winters when you jump a car basicaly your starting your car off the other persons battery. so of course its gonna start. rather or not it holds a charge is a different story. sometimes if you have the little green indicator light on top even though its still green, if theres only one cell in the battery thats dead the tester wont pick it up. so you may just have one dead cell. |
