Finished - Barry Sheene's 1980 YZR500

Here are the pictures of my completed Tamiya 1/12 scale Yamaha YZR500 which I converted to represent Barry Sheene's 1980 privately run Akai Bike. Since starting the bike Tamiya have now released a kit of the bike
anyway, for those interested here's a link to the progress thread

Re: Finished - Barry Sheene's 1980 YZR500

I like how you did the exhaust heat staining and weld joints. Looks very real. I too noticed that Tamiya has just released a kit of this, but you can feel proud that you created this from a base kit, and not a kit created out of box by Tamiya.

Very good washes too, really adds to the realism, doesn’t look dirty, looks just right, and very real.

This is one of the most perfect bike kits I have ever seen.

Just amazing.

Absolutely gorgeous! I don't think it matters much that Tami has a kit of it now - you did so much work detailing this thing (beautifully, too!) that it probably worked out about the same for you. That's just amazing modeling, gorgeous work on that bike. I looks 100% real. You've really a knack for getting in just the right details. Fantastic!

I really enjoyed watching the progress of this build. Whenever I wasnt motivated to work at the bench I went through your thread and I always walked away inspired. Amazing build. It was fun to watch.

Fantastic job, Rob: mainly little details like the reservoir on the left side're to die for and exausts are real, more: burned

Superb build. The key is in the details - the more you look, the more you are drawn in the the model..the more you see. A template for others to follow for sure.

I love the way the large side shots look like there from one of the MotoGP archive books!! Brilliant.
