I was wondering if any body could tell if the engine from an saturn sl2 can be lifted out of the top or do you have to drop out of the bottom of the car. thanks for the help

Comes out the top, or you can drop the sub-frame out the bottom, but I think top is easier.

the sl1 has a 97 hp engine while the s2l have 125 hp. the main difference is that the sl1 clinder head is restricted and the sl2 one is not. also the sl1 has one cam while the sl2 has 2

check the how-to section of saturnfans.com for some how-tos by Wolfman
i wouldn't say the SL1 SOHC head is resricted, its just the SL2 DOHC heads flows better simply due to design differance between SOHC and DOHC charituristics(2 valves vs 4 valves) if you are swaping head designs, you also need to swap PCMs and if you have a automatic, transmissions too.
