I have a 2000 yukon SLT 4x4 with a 5.3 and just recently, when i go to start it after sitting for as little as 15 minutes or as much as a few hours, it doesn't want to start and sometimes it doesnt. I crank it and it doesnt catch, and then when it finally does, it dies right away after i let off the cranking. Also, after i finally get it to catch and run, the rpms jump to the normal 500 then it starts to drop around 400 as if it were going to die and then it pops back up.
Also, i just replaced my battery and now my voltage are near 19...not quite 19 but definatly higher than 14. My guess is that it would be between 17-18...is anythying wrong with this? is this too much? I thought 14 volts was the normal amount? ANY suggestions would be appreciated!!! Please help!

Re: 2000 yukon stalling? HELP!!
it only happens when the engine is warm if that helps any for the diagnosis...I have tryed to start it numerous times when completely cold and it starts just like it always has... no long cranking.

Re: 2000 yukon stalling? HELP!!
The warm starting problem could be the fuel pressure regulator. It can leak and floods the engine making it hard to start after it sits for a while. Hook up a fuel pressure gauge and start the engine. Turn off the engine and watch the pressure. It will drop a little but should hold pressure. If it drops way off, the regulator could be bad.
As for the battery, anything over 16 is too high. Verify the voltage at the battery with a volt meter. Check to make sure the battery connects are good. //2000CAYukon |

Re: 2000 yukon stalling? HELP!! UPDATE!!!
UPDATE: now my truck wont even start anymore! I have been planning on taking it to the dealer, but i have had no time. Just tonight i tryed to start it and every time, it sounds like it fires right up then dies immediately. I attempted to srat it many, many time but to no avail. My only assumption is that the fuel pump has gone or the fuel pressure regulator finally took a COMPLETE S*IT...any tips as to what it might be and the estimated cost?? thanks

Whoa, how do you know what's wrong, check the fuel pressure first, check spark, spray carb cleaner ino the intake see if it will run, all basic diagnostics, or get it checked out by someone with the proper equipment.

Re: 2000 yukon stalling? HELP!!
yeah, I agree. This seems to be one of those times that you need to get to the dealer. Of course, you need to check the fuel relays, the fuel pressure & regulator and the fuel pump. If you can't remedy by all means get it to a dealer.

Re: 2000 yukon stalling? HELP!!
from what people have told me on this forum, i figured that the fuel pressure regulator or pump would be the main culprit. I do not have the necessary tools to check fuel pressure, and i do not have any carb cleaner. you guys are right, i can not guarentee the people on here are right about my current situation, but i still take it into consideration. ripoff...i mean dealer, here we come....

Re: 2000 yukon stalling? HELP!!
Well, I guessed right on my fuel pump on the Yukon - part cost me about $200 from O'Reilly's (I believe). I did not guess right on my Malibu and bought the fuel pressure regulator for about $25 (?) then I bought a fuel pump repair kit on Ebay for about $50 - $60 and paid someone $100 to put it in so I still came out ahead. I guess what I am saying is that there are alternatives to dealers - but if you can't find them - that'sd what the dealers are for. Thank GOD for the dealership employees that help us out on this web site!

Re: 2000 yukon stalling? HELP!!
Get under vehicle close to gas tank have someone turn key to on position listen for pump to humm. If there is no humm the pump is not working. If so check pump fuse incase an electrical problem could have blown it. Oh and one more thing if you will keep vehicle for a while dont get a junk pump, sure they may have a lifetime warranty but it sure sucks dropping the tank more than once...

Re: 2000 yukon stalling? HELP!!
I Had Same Problem, With My 2001 Yukon " Idle Problem" It Was Idled Low. I Don't Know How It Happened, but I Took It To Gmc And They Fixed It. Everything Is Fine Now.

Re: 2000 yukon stalling? HELP!!
If you have a 12 v test light check that the connection by the tank has 12 v going to the pump. You have a relay in the electric panel on my silverado drivers side about center. All relays are marked first feel it it should click.
As the other poster said you should here the pump if it is running. If not check relay and voltage before buying a new fuel pump. I have had much better luck with delco pumps which some parts stores sell. If no spark I would check the camshaft and crankshaft position sensor. They should go 0 to 1 on an ohm meter when cranking engine. Parts cost good money do a little checking first. |
