'72 Chevy Pickup Cheyenne (AMT)
Hi all,
Started this a month ago but then had to pause it 'cause college started again and I had some exams and stuff...I decided to continue working on it this week end. I decided to use other rims than the original ones because I don't like them that much. The kit also includes some much smaller classic rims, but AMT weren't smart enough to give away tires for them I painted the truck in some no name brand dark blue and it turned out rather flat. I think it looks cool that way actually, kinda oldschool, don't know what you think. I'll drop the ride as much as the rims allow me too, whish is as shown in the pics! A part from that, I'll keep the car fairly simple, don't think there's much to add or change anyway ![]() One last thing : this will probably be a slow build, not like the camaro I finished in a week ^^ Here's what it looks like now: The Kit : ![]() With the flash: ![]() Without the flash ![]() ![]() cheers |

wow that paint is dull.
I was thinking of buying this, tell me how it is as you get farther in this build. |

Re: '72 Chevy Pickup Cheyenne (AMT)
Well for now it's ok, I mean I guess you know what you should expect with an AMT kit. It's no highly detailed (there are like 2 decals and the interior is really basic) and you have to sand down quite a lot of plastic imperfections ('sepcialy on the chassis). A part from that, it looks nice, quite big and you get a few custom parts like huge fat dub wheels and a chrome steering wheel. I enjoy building it
opcorn:I was thinking, should I paint the rims in gloss black? |

Re: '72 Chevy Pickup Cheyenne (AMT)
So, small update, I finished the interior. It is extremy basic : some light brown flat color, a few touches of aluminium where needed and the chrome custom steering wheel.
It is practicaly impossible to do further detailing (I mean when you're still a noob like I am) in this kit because everything is already put together...for example, the seats are not separate parts...same for the exhaust pipes and the chassis! But hell, I think it looks fine : |

Re: '72 Chevy Pickup Cheyenne (AMT)
that cant be the "rides" kit can it cause i got the exact same one if it is!
its mostly all put together striaght out of the box so no real detailing and the front bumper/grill dont fit the body well does it due to thats the way mine is! what id do is use the frame as refferance and build one straight from scratch! |

Yeah it's the Rides Magazine Custom Collection 1972 Chevy Pickup Kit...
Of course you can do it all from scratch...but I know that would end with me getting bored of doing it and throwing it all away |

Re: '72 Chevy Pickup Cheyenne (AMT)
with the chassie as it is do you think there is a chance of being able to take the bed and trim it down and make it a short bed with wood grain or can it not be done on that kit?

Re: '72 Chevy Pickup Cheyenne (AMT)
Well the bed is made of 3 parts : the bed itself and the 2 sides of it (don't know if I express myself well). You can of course create your own wooden bed!
A part from that, I am not really happy with the paint and I kinda messed up the window borders (they are badly shaped on this kit). What should I use to take of the paint? White Spirit? |
