Angry 98 stalls in the morning

I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I have had almost everything either checked or changed and no one can find the problem. It only does it when the engine has completely cooled down and it will stall for about 5-15 seconds and then it will run out fine for the rest of the day. It might do it for weeks at a time and then not do it for a few days and then it is back. Any ideas?

Man im having the same problem as well ...Almost every morning it does that or late at night when i get off work......after it starts i have no problems with it the whole day...i have to crank it about 2-3 times for it to start in the morning.....Mechanic cant do nothing about it, they say its fine, what idiots......Im thinking it has to do with the gasoline..i will try putting 91 octane for a week and maybe that will get the job done....i say this because i put 91 octane for about 2 weeks and suddenly started putting 87 and thats when it started to do this..........Anyways let me know how you do and i will ask around as well
good luck

Re: 98 stalls in the morning

Check/clean AIC (air idle control) valve. It it a stepper motor that bypasses the throttle plate and sets idle. Clean with carb cleaner. Use cotton swab to clean plunger mating surface. It's located (5.7l) on driver side, toward the back of throttle body.

I have 1997 which normally starts without touching accelerator, just flick the key. Now I must tap acclerator to get started. I think the AIC is not responding fast enough for cold idle.

I had this problem before and replaced AIC after cleaning several times. It required a star-type screwdriver. After replacement turn on ignition without starting for 10 seconds and turn off. This calibrates the position.

Any cold idle problems I start with AIC including Porsche and Range Rover.

Re: 98 stalls in the morning

I tried to post a picture but could not. Send me a Private Message with email address and I'll send. ( I can't add attachemnts to AF email or PM's.)

This is for a 5.7l gas engine.

It's located about the level of the throttle plate. Round, 1" diameter with two screws. Connector on back, 4 wire.

There is a larger black item toward the front with connector/wires but this is throttle 'position sensor' as I recall.

Both on driver side.

I just looked at mine. If you don't see it your application must be different.
