I have a 67 Nova with a 283. I really would like to put a bigger engine in it but i was wonderin if there is any help about what to put in it and maybe a price of how much it would cost...

Re: Need a bigger engine for 67 Nova

you can get a 350 longblock from jegs or anywhere brand new even the block is new for 1400 bucks and you can put in about 2 grand for a complete ready to run, which is the longblock in addition to an intake, carb, ignition, and i think waterpump as well. the lower cost ones make about 250 horsepower, but if you put all your own components in and switch the camshaft, you can make 400 horsepower for prolly a couple grand. get the longblock for 1400, then an edelbrock rpm intake for 200, a 750 cfm carb for a couple hundred or something, and ignition and water pump. also the cam will likely cost 300 or so and some vortec heads will likely run about 500 for both. so maybe 3k or a little more for a decent rocket motor

Re: Need a bigger engine for 67 Nova

Make sure you allow for the correct oil pan and pump "pickup", as the earlier Nova/Chevy II has a different steering mechanisim with special pan requirements. Moroso makes all the right stuff.

Don't go the "cheap route" for your engine. If you must buy a "crater", make sure it's one of the better ones. Anything under $2K isn't going to be worth much... You should also talk to your local engine builders. A good machinist can easily make you more power for your dollar than a crater. Craters just make things more simplistic...
