How to remove the lower instrument panel??

Trooper/2001
I am trying to install a remote starter and wish to know how to remove the lower instrument panel, drivers side. This panel is directly under the steering column. I can only find one plug that seems to hold the left side of this panel in place. no other visible attaching points.

Any tips are greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Mark

Re: How to remove the lower instrument panel??

Hi, sometimes you have to start higher or lower and remove bezels and consoles to get at all the fasteners. I am not familiar with the 2001, but here are some directions that kind of show what I am talking about. maybe you have to remove the bezel around the instrument cluster to access the fasteners holding the lower valence?? Good luck

Removal
  1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to "LOCK".
  3. Disconnect the battery "- " terminal cable, and wait at least 5 minutes.
  4. Disconnect the yellow 2-way SRS connector located under the steering column. Caution: The wheels of the vehicle must be straight ahead and the steering column in the "LOCK" position before disconnecting the steering wheel. Failure to do so will cause the coil assembly to become uncentered which will cause damage to the coil assembly.
  5. Remove the transmission (for M/T) and transfer control lever knob. Disconnect the wiring harness connectors then remove front console assembly.
  6. Remove lower cluster assembly.
