1992 Pontiac Firebird

This kit was pretty hard to find. They were on ebay everyday, but I was constently outbid, and I wasn't paying $20 + shipping for this model.

So basicly, Im replicating my car, and how it will look once I do my engine swap & new interior.

Started off as a 1991 Pontiac Firebird Formula, but since my car is neither a 1991 or a Formula, this is now a 1992 Pontiac Firebird model kit

Here is the body mocked up:

And here is my car, and how it will look eventually:

Questions? Comments? Concerns? Anyone build this model before?

Re: 1992 Pontiac Firebird

Alright, shot some color onto the hood and bumpers. The body needs some work, so I'll shoot that when the work is done. I just hope it wasn't to humid outside, the paint looks dull right now. This is only the first coat anyways, so hopefully tomorrow I can shoot another coat.

C&C plz.

Wow, not only great color, but
if that's red styrene, WOW!

Is that a firehawk you've got there?
Firehawks are sick!

What color is that?

Re: 1992 Pontiac Firebird

Thanks. I'll have to give the bumpers and hood a second wet coat tomorrow when its less humid to get the shine back, as well as give the first coat to the body.

This model is not a Firehawk, the reason I got this model was to replicate my car. Since they don't make a base Firebird model for my year, the only different between my model and my real car will be the engine. Though soon enough the engine will match soon enough.

The color is "Bright Aqua Metallic CC", same color thats on my Firebird. After my second wet coat, I will apply 1 or 2 coat of clear coat.

Re: 1992 Pontiac Firebird

I painted the body, and after about a week of drying, this is the latest verdict. The body is pretty shiny, and tomorrow will be given a second coat. The hood and bumpers got their second coat a week ago, and are still a bit foggy. The foggyness is due to me painting in the humidity for the first coat. My question is will wet sanding with 1500 and giving a third coat do the trick?

Re: 1992 Pontiac Firebird

Its hard to get any replies around here anymore, its like you have to either be really good or join a cult.

I just went with sanding with 1500 and spraying another coat, and everything looks great. Clear coats start tomorrow. Ill post pictures, but if noone is interested, I don't have to post anymore.

PS: Thanks suicidehummer for the replies.

Re: 1992 Pontiac Firebird

Part of the problem with replies is that, now that the forums are split up, a lot of import and sports car guys don't even bother looking at muscle cars, and vice versa... you'll probably get a lot of replies in your completed thread though.

Love the colour!

Re: 1992 Pontiac Firebird

Many of the Duplicolor paints require a clear coat. Being a metallic or pearl I suspect yours will require a clear to actually be glossy.

Re: 1992 Pontiac Firebird

On the exhaust, I used a spray can tip that was kinda clogged, and it gave me that effect, so it turned out like I wanted. Thats the engine, a LB9 with a WCT5, polished plenium, runners, and valve covers.
