What weight oil do you use?
I've read several threads on different forums about the oil for 2006 Sonatas.
While searching, I didn't find any threads about oil here. I am usually one to follow the rules strictly, so thought it had to be 5w20. But then synthetics have come in the picture. And the fact I am in Central Florida. So, what do you think? Thanks, Suzanna |

Re: What weight oil do you use?
5w20 is the most common oil to use in most cars when you get into bigger vehicles you step up... Other than that i'm not sure.

Re: What weight oil do you use?
Oil Viscosity is based on many different factors, The main thing is Temperature. The colder it gets the thicker the oil gets, on the other hand the Hotter it gets the thinner the oil gets. Being in Florida, I would say 5w30, but 5w20 won't hurt anything. I run Royal Purple 5W20 in the North East in my '06 3.3 V6.
Not to Push my Company on ya, but here is a good article on oil we had on our site. http://www.advanceautoparts.com/engl...0010101ov.html Thanks jay |

Re: What weight oil do you use?
Hyundai (as do a growing number of automakers) has tossed its hat into the 5W-20 camp on current production, but continues to allow use of 5W-30 and 10W-30 (the latter in warmer climates). I'll admit, living in southern California, I'm a throwback to 10W-30, and some automakers (notably Honda, in certain performance oriented Acura engines) continue to recommend that viscosity range. So, it boils down to your choice. Your owner's manual will indicate in the "Do It Yourself Maintenance" section that those three viscosity ranges are acceptable in indicated ambient temperature ranges. Given the anticipated climate you probably have in Florida, 5W-30 might be a middle of the road compromise that delivers more protection in the heat than 5W-20.
