Engine choices for a 93?

I strongly belive this car is a 93 Elantra now 16v DOHC

now is there any way to use a newer engine for a newer elantra?

I'm not sure if there are any direct swaps to newer Elantra engines. The '93 Elantra had a Mitsubishi engine, so you're probably more likely to find a newer Mitsu engine that would be a direct swap. I've heard of people swapping for other Mitsu engines to boost the power, but I imagine there are some direct swaps that would be comparable to the current one as well. Sorry I don't know more than that, but you might be able to check into it.

I am just trying to find an engine that I can use that has good performance/cheaply

as I am finding it hard to find an engine for this 93 elantra..
