front left side bang / knock

I have a 99 Prism and for the past 12 months I have been hearing a large knock or rattle coming from the front left side when you hit a small bump. You can also hear the noise when you rock the car side to side with the steering wheel at lower speeds. At highway speeds you can not hear the noise at all when you hit a bump or pot hole. Had a hearing friend help me pin point the noise to the front left wheel area. We could not find anything loose so took it into a GM dealer and they said the struts were bad. Put new struts in and the noise was still there. When I had the hub off for the strut installation it did not see loose nor did the ball joint. Someone said it might be the wheel bearing and the noise is the outer part of the drive shaft moving around. Any thoughts??

Also where is a good source for inside door release handle? The dealer wants 58 bucks for a little plastic thing.
