Question Clutch install

I've been trying to put off buying a clutch for a little while now and it's beginning to slip very bad. I have everything picked out but I havent bought it yet. What I wanted to know is how hard it is to install a new clutch/flyweel and how long it would take. Or should I just take it to a shop and let them install it. If I decide to install it are there any directions on any sites that take you through it step by step or am I on my own??

Re: Clutch install

AWD eh... FWD it would be a snap, but for AWD you'd have to take out the rear end. If you're dedicated, it could take most of the day. If you're no familiar, I don't suggest it because of all the driveshaft BS you're going to have to deal with. I paid $150 for a clutch install on my rotary, so it wasn't that much of a loss at all. We worked on a FWD DSM in the shop and it was pretty straight forward.

Re: Clutch install

Only $150? Damn, that's cheap as hell. Every shop around here wants to charge at least $250 just to drop the tranny. Then the labor chargers and any other parts they need and such. Damn, do mine, yeah?

You might be thinking of a different awd setup, on the dsm's the only difference betweeen fwd and awd is that you have to take the transfer case off.

Re: Clutch install

Yeah you just need to drop the tranny out...you dont need to take the whole rear end off....if you are decently technically inclined I would say you could probably do it yourself if you have a way of getting the tranny out without breaking your face when you drop it out...such as and engine hoist or tranny jack....but it is pretty time consuming...
