Running lights on but headlights dead

1996 4 cyclinder S10

Suddenly my headlights will not come on. Last night they worked fine but today they are dead. However the running lights come on along with the break lights and parking lights.
Any ideas what would cause this?
Thanks

Re: Running lights on but headlights dead

Took it to mechanic. Seems the dimmer/headlight switch burned out.
Not sure what caused it though.
