hi there my new z24

hello everybody I just purchased a new z24 2002... I went for test drive and, noticed the temp gage going a little past the half, what can be causing this ?? Also there is a little sqeak when i hit a hole and, was told by the garage that it is a top-plate on my front shock doing this.. Anyways they will fix everything before i pick it up. Now one question I have is.. its a 2.2 ecotec and, would like to know if my belt is chain or rubber belt..?? Can anyone clrea me up on this please.. I will post you a picture when i get it.. it will be ready in 2 days.. thanks you guys, bye

Re: hi there my new z24

Welcome to AF, it's a chain not belt, the temp gauge going a little bit past half is normal I believe, and squeak could mean that the shocks/struts are crappin' out, but like you said the dealer is "fixing" it all before hand so you should be good

Re: hi there my new z24

Salutations buddy and welcome to AF.

The squeaking is caused by a worn strut mount, very commin in our cars. If you decided to do any suspension modifications get your self pre-00 strut mounts as they are solid 1 piece. All suspension parts are interchangeable from 95-05. As for your temp running a little hotter, thats normal. The place your buying the car from will prolly most just replace the thermostat. My car runs a smidge past center, but thats because i don't have the little dam that forces the air to the radiator anymore. If you have any other questions concerns, feel free to ask or do a quick reference search. Once again, welcome to Af and enjoy your stay.

If its only that much, you have nothing to worry about. Just wait till an extremly hot day and it gets up about 1/4 past that. Like sitting in traffic 93 degrees out and your barely moving. My fan gets a work out on those days and the needle sits between middle normal and 1/2 to Hot!

No you have nothing to worry about if its only going above that much. Start to worry once it goes up 3/4 of the way.

Re: hi there my new z24

It won't do any damage unless the needle is pegged @ H and you keep running it for a long time. But by that time your coolant would be boiling over and you would notice that before any damage would occur. Boiling is 212 degree F if i recall correctly or since your canadian 100 C.

Re: hi there my new z24

Yeah, anywhere around the middle is normal. As for you Cody, try sitting in 103 F on a highway for around an hour. Luckily I dont have to do that every day, but there are quite a few. Thats the thing that sux bout Texas... I swear its the hottest state around. Plus all the humidity... ahhh and playing tennis outside round 1pm-4pm. Least I get a really good tan. =D
