Solenoid Issues??
Hi. So I seem to be having issue-after-issue with my '98 Bravada. This most recent is driving me nuts. Please make a note that I'm completely automobile stupid so... Anyway, I can start the vehicle and everything is working fine except the button on the ... (automatic, puts it into drive) will not push down so I'm stuck in park.
I called the dealership and they said something about a solenoid and having to pry off something on the console (i can't find this) and then pushing a white button or lever. Then I'd have to park in neutral and put on the parking break until i fix this issue. Any help with what is wrong, the temporary fix (finding it) and all else is GREATLY APPRECIATED! |

Re: Solenoid Issues??
The brake transmission shift interlock (BTSI) system prevents the automatic transmission from being shifted out of PARK unless the brake pedal is depressed. When the brake pedal is depressed, the BTSI solenoid releases a lock pawl. This enables the shift linkage to move and the shift lever to operate.
When service operations are required, the BTSI system can be overridden. For vehicles equipped with floor-mounted shift levers, an override lever is mounted on the right side of the assembly. The override lever can be accessed by removing the shift lever boot. Push the lever to the left in order to override the BTSI. Check for the basics first. Check the BTSI fuse in the under hood fuse box. Do the brake lights work?

Re: Solenoid Issues??
hey
thanks for the response back. i will check the fuse box and to see if the break lights are working. i believe the fuse box is inside of the driver door (??) ALSO...i forgot to mention that YEARS back i had an issue with getting the key out so i had the dealership take that thing out. after that the vehicle could still be in drive and i could shut the car off/take the key out. when i'd go back, i'd find that the car had rolled. one last thing. where specifically do i find this over ride thing? is it under the leather part that goes around the shifter? thanks again for the help! |

Re: Solenoid Issues??
According to my information, the fuse you are looking for is in the fuse box under the hood(engine compartment) in postion #26. It's a 10 amp fuse. The fuse box in the dash by the driver's door is refered to as the instrument panel (IP) fuse box.
Yes, the over-ride is under the shifter's leather boot.
