F1 Lm

Does anyone know the original cost or any prices any of the LM's were sold for? Or maybe an estimate of how much one would be worth. I'm no expert, but I'd say that Seldorff's LM would reach $3 million if it were to be sold at a high-end auction, maybe more.

Selldorff's LM supposedly sold for ~$4mm to Ralph Lauren. Not sure on how much they were brand new.

Re: F1 Lm

Wow, I hadn't realized that it had been sold. That is a staggering number, but I'd say that isn't too bad of a price seeing as there are only 5 total and the 3 that went to the Sultan are probably in terrible shape right now. I know if I had that kind of $ I'd pay $4 mil for it I'm not too familiar with Lauren, but IIRC isn't he more of a collector and doesn't drive most of his cars?

Re: F1 Lm

with regards to the LMs.

how can i tell which are true LMs and which are LM look alikes. Also, what are the chassis no's of all the LMs ? Including Mclarens own.

I have a lot of pics of the LMs but not all are the same 2 cars, if 3 went to the sultan and only 2 exist elsewhere surely there are quite a few that have been made to look like LMs.

is Mr Bridgers a real LM ?

XP1 LM is with McLaren. LM1, LM2, etc, to LM5 are the rest. LM3 is with Ralph Lauren. I believe LM2 is in Japan (can't remember if it is #2). LM1, LM4, and LM5 are in Brunei as far as I know.

Mr. Bridgers is a 1996 GTR, chassis #16R. Converted to road spec and painted in the LM Papaya color. There are a few ways to tell the differences between the LMs visually, but the easiet is to look at the interior right side footwell. If there's not a seat there, but rather a large electronic box, it's a GTR. If there's a seat, it's an LM. Of course some GTRs may have had the 3rd seat installed, but I do not know about that.

Re: F1 Lm

Bridger's is a resprayed '96 GTR - there are at least 4 other GTRs like his, plus one longtail GTR, which have been painted in Paypaya Orange to give them the appearance of an LM. It sometimes takes a sharp eye to spot the differences and ID a real LM.

Here's an old post of mine on the forum that outlines most of the visual differences you will find with the converted GTRs versus a real LM:

http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...44&postcount=2

Since the photo linked at the bottom of that post will no longer work, you can click this thumbnail to see it:

The chassis numbers of the LMs are: XP1LM (prototype) and LM1 -> LM5 for the production cars. LM1 and LM4 were the black ones, and LM5 was the 3rd LM that went to Brunei. The factory still holds onto XP1 LM and LM2 was still in Japan last time photos came out of the ZAZ Museum. LM3 is the one in Lauren's hands now.

The original price figure I found for the LM was £799,000. That was published in an article on the LM printed in the Australian "Wheels Magazine" in February 1996. Running that £799,000 through a currency convertor for that time period it would equate to $1,208,300.63. The Euro wasn't even around yet, so no conversion to that is available. The other prominent F1 LM article put out by the British "CAR Magazine" lists the price as "£800,000 (in theory)". I seem to recall one of the US Magazines (possibly Road&Track) running a short side-bar article on the car when it was announced and listing the asking price for the LM at $1.25M - so all those figures seem to agree with each other for the most part.

Selldorff's LM went to Lauren at the end of 2004. Lauren is a collector who simply has too many cars to drive, but his cars do get excercised and do see proper care. I have heard that he has driven the LM (he raved about it in fact), but don't know how often it sees the road. I'm happy that he has because he is a passionate collector who truly understands what the car is, and it ensures the vehicle will be well preserved for future generations.

Re: F1 Lm

Peloton,

Do you know if Lauren's LM was indeed involved at that accident some time ago, and if so, if the car has been fully repaired since?

Thanks
