Re: non turbo to turbo

No it is not. You obviously have not searched enough because there is a sticky at the top of this page titled FAQ that has this question answered in it. The swap has never been done and unless you have excellent mechanical skills, you will give up before you even get started. Do not try it.

And Welcome to AF.

Re: non turbo to turbo

It would be a bastard of a swap. If you really want a turbo car, I would either A) Junk the NT and buy a AWD shell to put your buddies shit in (I might know a guy with a black GSX shell in Northern MN if interested) B) Get another 420a and set that up for a turbo. I know a guy with a 420a neon on some big t3/t4 hybrid running probably close to 450 at the wheels once he gets a decent tune. Thank you for searching BTW, not something you run across in a newbie very often. Welcome.

Re: non turbo to turbo

yea. i really didnt mean to come across as an ass or nething. i really haven't looked at the engine bays and this is my 1st eclipse. so i might just go with the 420a and make it a turbo later. everybody says to do it that way ne way cuz it will smoke a stock gsx or gst.

Re: non turbo to turbo

It won't "smoke" a stock turbo, but it is supposedly faster than a stock gst. You will get your ass handed to you off the line by a gsx, but because of the compression ratio and what not, a turbo'd 420a is a little quicker than the 4g63.

EDIT: If you need any parts, I have about 4 engines worth of stuff just laying around.

Re: non turbo to turbo

My buddies 420a isnt for sale. I dont think they are an expensive engine though, I bet you can get one fairly cheap. I think 420a neons are halfways common, you might be able to apply the midnight discount to one in a local junk yard. I know a guy that drove his sisters neon through the gate of a local junk yard, switched the doors with a "donor car" and did a tranny swap... right there in the junk yard in the middle of the night! Hes quite amazing.

EDIT: You should have used the correct subforum by the way...

OT EDIT: Holy 3000!

The 420a is a Chrysler engine.

Re: non turbo to turbo

This is a rather interesting thread...

Well what exactly do you want to get out of this car? Do you want to have a ridiculously powerful 4 banger thats gets worse gas mileage than your camaro did or a car that gets 30mpg and is nothing more than a daily driver?

Re: non turbo to turbo

If you just do a few basic bolt on mods to a GST or GSX it won't be too horrible. I think I was getting about 28mpg stock on mine. After my project is done I'll be lucky to get 12mpg. lol
