LTZ #'s
Does anyone know anything about the production numbers of the Lumina LTZ??? Everyone says that they're "rare" I would agree. I live in a town of just under 10,000 people and have only seen about four other LTZ's. Some of which may not even be from my town. I searched for two years trying to find one to buy in my area. I finally gave up recently and drove 200 miles to get mine. The closest one I had found was just over an hour away and it was sold before I had the chance to buy it. It was a darn good deal too...it was a '98 with 71,000 miles. The exterior was beat and the interior was rough as well but the dealer only wanted $3800 for it. The one I just bought has 64K and is in much better shape but I paid $6500. I am just rambling on now. Any ideas about the production numbers though?????

Re: LTZ #'s
I don't have any hard numbers, but for 1998, for example, the 3.8 (standard in the LTZ and optional in the LS) accounted for only 10% of the units built, so if you assume that optioned up LS's account for maybe half of those 3.8's, then only 5% of production would have been LTZ's...

Re: LTZ #'s
thanks for the info. I checked into it and for my (1999) it shows that 12% of luminas had the 3.8L. Due to the LS optional 3.8, I'd say that your guess of 5% for LTZ's would probably be about right.

I used to have a customer at the shop who had a 1994 Corvette that by 1999 looked like it's been sitting in a scrapyard for 5 years, she never washed it, even in the summertime it'd still have salt on it from the last winter, black paint's clearcoat was turning and getting cloudy on the flats, interior pigged out with cigarette butts and trash...wheels peeling, exhaust pipes bent from curb hopping, front airdam cracked from bottoming out, etc... I had it for about a week, she needed someone to drive it home with them to diagnose a driveability issue that would only occur after it ran for 10-15 miles...(no problem ), while I had it I cleaned it, speed buffed the clearcoat, stripped the clear off the wheels and bent the pipes back into shape, fixed the front dam, cleaned the windows, door jambs, vacuum, deodorize, etc...really a complete detail ($149.99 value ) for free, just outta pity for this once proud machine...When she came to pick it up after the repair (fuel pump), she walked out and then back in after a couple of minutes...says "I don't see my car over there..."..I pointed to it. "That's not my car..." I told her if it ever came back looking that neglected again, I was gonna call the Corvette Club or America and request that it be taken from her...she says "They can do that...??" ..Blondes...

I can't believe that that lady actually believed you ! I agree with you about people not giving a damn about them. That does suck! There's a white one in my town, that's driven by a teenager. He probably doesn't know anything about it, it's rareity, or anything. Daddy probably gave it to him. You can rest assured that there's one in good hands. I keep her clean as a whistle. I've had it a month now and have washed and waxed it five or six times. The exterior is not perfect but not too bad. It looks as though the previous owner just let it sit in wal-mart parking lot to get hit by numerous carts. The interior, however is flawless I've put leather conditioner on the seats twice and it is pretty nice.

Befriend someone who works at a paintless dent removal shop...like I did, or When I worked at the parts store we got opportunities to attend different manufacturers' training and product demos...one was a class in paintless dent repair, for $125 you got 6 hours of training and a basic set of repair tools, (blocks, levers, spoons, mirror etc)...and start doing you own... I couldn't go to that one, but I really wanted to.

Re: LTZ #'s
that could be cool. My car has two or three noticeable scratches as well as a few that are almost like creases. There is also one right below the drivers door handle that is like a real deep chip the paint is still there but the color is a little different (maybe someone tried to repair it) I've recently decided I wanted to get into automotive painting/body work. The only problem with that is that it seems that you have to do all the other stuff (auto repair, mechanical, etc.) as well. Dammit, I just wanna paint a car. I might do some research on prep and painting and practice on my dads old tractors. If I ever get really good I might repair the LTZ.
