Sammy Swindell 2006 Sprintcar

Just one month ago the World of Outlaws Sprintcar series came to New Zealand and among the Kinser boys and other famous names was Sammy Swindell. He had a Richard Petty Driving Experience livery Sprintcar. Thisis the car below:

The base kitset is the 2002 Kinser sprintcar and so far the chassis has been assembled and spraypainted. The firewall has been painted and is awaiting detailing.

Am in the process of scratchbuilding the hydraulic piston that alters the pitch of the wing and the wiring + hand operated switch located in the cockpit.

More photos as progress comes...

Aaron

Judging by your uneducated disapproval it is no suprise your country doesnt have any decent motorsport events if they are all as ignorant as you. You have to see what is behind these cars. 850 horsepower coming out of a 400KG car. The power to weight ratio is the highest of any motorsport in the world. Upon exiting the corners these cars have so much grip and power that they wheel stand for almost 70+ metres at a time. The G-forces are massive, the driver needs to brace his body and knees as he cant stabilise himself when driving without these aids. On a 400m track they can do 169kmph down a 50m straight before hooking into the next corner. Pretty impressive if you ask me.

If you really disapprove then how about critiquing my work so far and telling me why you dont like it. Because what you are doing is postwhoring. Keep your dirty nose out of my WIP.

With all due respect, that was uncalled for. Saying that on the basis of a comment made by a 13-year old prick is hardly justified.

Re: Sammy Swindell 2006 Sprintcar

Well, I like it. And its great to see more cars like this and yes, its a very exciting sport. Many top drivers got their start in sprint and so far the work is amazing. Keep up the good work and cant wait to see more.

Re: Sammy Swindell 2006 Sprintcar

Have managed to get the firewall built up and mocked into place. I scratch built the pedals as well as the knee braces to make the cockpit a little more busy. There is no pedals supplied in the kitset so I modelled a pedal system used cars at the local track, stainless rod attached to a spring system which moves up and down rather then like a normal car pedal. To make it go push vertically down on the gas and same for the brake. Have also added the wing tilt box on left hand side of the roll cage, now just need to plumb the firewall and can begin on the engine.

Comments welcome

Re: Sammy Swindell 2006 Sprintcar

Time for an update on this thread!
Scratchbuilt a helmet net and installed into the car, as well as wrapped grip tape around the wheel like is done on many sprintcars, the fuel cell was glued and painted, the photos show it a little too light in colour although out of the halogen light it is very very close to the colour on the Swindell car. It is Tamiya TS-10 (French Blue).
Comments welcome, heres the pics...

Re: Sammy Swindell 2006 Sprintcar

G,day mate, thought I'd seen you here before.Your building a great model of a great driver. You've put more detail into your second sprint build than I have in all four of the ones I've built, including the current Kinser project.
P.S The best way to deal with people like that is to ignore them.

Re: Sammy Swindell 2006 Sprintcar

Hey bud, yeah thought you were familiar too haha. I have never really tried the all out detail thing so this time I decided that since it is all open as sprinters are unlike a Rally car where the detail get covered I might has well have a go.
Cheers for the comments!

Re: Sammy Swindell 2006 Sprintcar

It's update time.
The Sprintcar has had its seat belted up and have installed it. The cockpit is now finished apart from the linking of the wing tilting switch to the ram itself. Although thats towards the end of the build. The red tape in the photos around the front of the seat is only for holding the seat in place during gluing.
Heres a couple of photos to update:
