Good carb for a 305?

Well, I recently purchased an 82 El Camino, that orriginally had a V6, but 3 years ago it was swapped out for a 305 V8.

When this was done, the carburetor was obviously replaced along with it, but was not wired to the computer, because the computer is incompatible with the larger, 4 barrel carb...

So, I can either buy a new computer, or a new carburetor... I've heard that wiring in a computer is a nightmare, so I think I would rather stick to a carb. My mechanic says I need a "Holley Carburetor with an electric choke"

I'm looking to boost my feul economy as my primary concern... 13.7 MPG sucks... badly... BUT, I don't want to loose what little power I have...

So, what would be a good carb with a good balance of HP, and Economy?

Oh, and while i was looking arround the net for carb info I stumbled onto this research page... so I was wondering... is this total BS? Or something I could actually use? Your thoughts?
