can kyb's handle a 2" drop w/GC's?

i wanna 2" with ground controls, but i don't know which shocks to get. i really want koni yellows, but i don't wanna shell out $500 for them. i'm starting to consider tokico illuminas, but i've heard of people doing it with kyb adjustables. how's the ride with the kyb's with a 2" drop? i thought they weren't supposed to go that low.

I just got some AGX's and b4 I put them on I wanted to double check how much lowering they could handle. First off and this is what I would go by...right in the instruction manual it says they are made for stock ride height and will not warranty anything that is lowered below 1.5". I wanted to go 1.75" so I called KYB. The dude there I talked to (not the most knowledgeable) says that usually it's 1.5" but on a honda civic it's only going to be 1" because there's less travel in the strut (3.5"). OK this is bullshit I am thinking. So I call and order some Bilstein sports (they are made for drops like Koni Yellows). In the mean time I call where I got the AGX's and they say 2" and they'll warranty them themselves. WTF!? So this isn't even the WHOLE story but I'll leave it at that and that I have some brand new AGX's in the box for sale (for 1996-2000 Civics).

i have kyb agx's (the adjustable ones) and in the instruction card it sais that they could handle up to 1.6" drop, even thou they are made for stock ride height. it thing it will hold a 2" drop with a good set of springs.

how do bilstein shocks compare to koni yellows? or to tokico illuminas?

From what I hear Bilsteins are excellent non-adjustable shocks. They're German made if you respect that. Bilstein sports (not the heavy duties) are made for cars that have been dropped. I found through trial and error that Bilstein sports ARE made for honda civics but only for Neuspeed. So if your are interested in getting them give them a call. Tokico Illuminas can only handle up to a 1.75" drop according to the guy I spoke to at Tokico. Koni Yellows are a good choice if you want to lower your car beyond that and also want the adjustable feature. Bilstein sports and Tokico Illuminas cost pretty close, you could find the Tokicos for ~$98 shipped and the Bilsteins for ~$119 + SH (ea). Koni sports can be found for $500/4 + SH (~$30). All have lifetime warranties. And FYI -- KYB AGX's only have a 1 year warranty.

thanks for the info.

is it really worth it for the adjustability? how often does one really change it? i'm not a racer, so i don't think i would really need to adjust anything once everything is on the car.

i have had kybs on for about 3-4 months. im lowered with sportline springs. they say they lower it 1.8 but on my car the front is exactly 2. i also drove on a 1000 mile road trip with 5 people in my car and a full trunk that made the hole car about 1 inch lower and the shocks are still doing great. except the bolt on top come loose bc you can only get it so tight bc of where the put the adjustablity dial. so if you get these shocks and you here a little thunk coming from your suspension after you go over a bump check that out first.
