im about to give up on 4g civics

this car is nothing but problems, and if i dont get this fixed, im getting away from 4gs

ok i got another damn problem. I have just done a full tune up and the car ran fine for about a week, but now when i was driving the other day my car would stumble a little on acceleration. but the idle sits perfect. when i tap the gas real fast in neutral it will stumble for like a milisecond and then rev up.

also when i first turn the car on the idle lopes about twice and then sits in the right spot. i adjusted the timing, but when i adjust it and check it a day later, it seems to go back out of wack and i have to set it again.

one more thing is that when the car was at idle i unplugged the TPS and it seemed to exadgerate the problem i was experiencing when i puched the throttle.

onlything i can thing of is to replace the fuel injectors, or fuel pump, or tps. or maby the map sensor?

by the way its an 89 hatch std, thanks guys i really need this fixed by friday or my vacation will be ruined

If your map sensor was bad it would throw a code. You don't want to unplug the tps because it's there for a reason. TPS stands for Throttle Position Sensor and your car needs it. Have you checked for anything mechanical out of wack? Maybe your throttle cable is sticking. It happens and WD-40 can fix it. These cars are old and you really need to consider that. My car pisses me off too but I just don't drive it anymore...

Re: im about to give up on 4g civics

ive adjusted my throttle cable recently also, i went searching through every forum known to man last night till 3 am and it seems ALOT of people had the same exact problem but none came up with a solid solution. but my car is in really good condition and i'd hate to have to get rid of it over something like this.

Re: im about to give up on 4g civics

im trying, i got the money, got the skills, but no garage, so i have to pay the shop 1g to do it

ok i may have found a problem, 2 of the new plugs were cracked and one broke apart, thank god outside of the engine. i put in some old ngks that came with the car that i kept for some odd reason and it ran just about fine.

but now i need a timing adjustment, what am i doing wrong? heres what i do

-let the car warm up to when the rpms drop to about 750-900 rpms for normal idle
-turn the car off short circuit the thingee for the timing on the right, hook up the timing light and set it at 18 (or zero and i use the 3 lines- the one in the middle i think is right?)
-start the car up and then check the timing marks with the light, its not in time, so i loosen the dizzy bolts and turn it untill its within specs and tighten the bolts.
-check the timing once more before turning the car off to make sure its right.
-then i turn off the car and disconnect the timing light, remove the jumper thing, then close the hood.
-i get in the car drive it around for a day only to find the timing reset itself back to where it was before i timed it.

what the hell is wrong!? do i need to reset the ecu at any point, what am i doing wrong? removing the jumper wire at the wrong time? please help

If your timing is moving, The only thing is the rotor unless someone is messing with your head. Does the dizzy go back to the same spot?

The rotor has a metal insert where the screw goes. What happen's is the metal slides and changes your timing. Pop off the cap and wiggle the rotor to see if it is moving. watch the mounting screw and see if it stay's in the middle.

I always reset the ecu when I do the timing.
