What to expect from 96 Body painting?

I was hit on my front fender while parked. The repair involved painting new fender, front door, and they threw in a little paint on my hood to cover a few flecks that was not involved in the accident. It all looks good on the hood, fender and door. It is obvious they used original Toyota color paint. However when the car is in the sun there is a clear distinction between the new painted front door and the 10 year old paint on the back door. Although it's not bad, I was hoping not to be able to see any differences. Should I accept it the way it is, or is there anything that can be done with a 10 year old car without painting the whole car? Thanks for any replys.

You could try using polishing compound to bring back the luster in the 10 year old paint. It has microscopic grit in it that will remove any oxidized paint from the surface. If the paint is realy bad you could use rubbing compound but, be very careful with it because it has a much coarser grit. Other than that, unless there's some new wizbang stuff on the market, you'll either have to live with it or paint the whole car.

Just be aware that if you use either of these you'll be removing any clear coat that may be left on the car so washing and waxing will be even more important.

Cool Re: What to expect from 96 Body painting?

The painting place sucks. In today's automotive repair world, it is NOT difficult to match even the oldest, most faded pearls / metalics.

Automotive painting is 90% prep work. They simply did a poor job.

Thanks for your advice. I took the car back and they are repainting and blending the doors area that was a concern to me. I believe they are goiing to try and stick the insurance company for even more money. Quite a business they are in. The original problem was a fender that was a little crunched and a scrapped hubcap. I saw the fender on the internet for as little as 40 dollars. All told including the rental car the insurance may pay up to 2300 dollars. Not supposed to be held against my rates since it was under uninsured and not my fault. But I don't trust insurance companies to tell the truth.
