Clutch Fluid
Hey all;
I finally got a day off tomorrow so I'm going to do that mod where you remmove a little restrictor plate in the clutch line... I think its a 420a mod only, but I'm gong to give it a whirl. Also got some new Alphines for the front, and I'm excited about those too. Anywho, does it make a big difference if I use DOT3/4 brake fluid or actual clutch fluid for it? I want to stiffen it up, if possible, so is there anyway to do it with the fluid itself? What would you guys choose when draining and refiling your clutch lines? Thanks

I use DOT3 I believe, I dont think it is really going to have that much of a difference. The clutch restrictor is in the 4g63 cars also. I did this mod a few months back and it made a big difference. But I have a performance clutch so I had some chatter when engaging and this mod took all of it out.

the restrictor is where the hard clutch line connects to the slave cylinder. It is a little piece of metal with a spring on it. Its suppose to slow the fluid movement down so that the clutch engages smoothly but I have a high clamp pressure plate and I want the clutch to engage as fast as I can release it.

All I have to say is WOW. I took it out earlier and just drove around. It was ok. No difference in the feeling or anything. Then coming home tonight an older Grand Prix was doing flybys on me, so at a light I burned the hell out of him. OMG, each gear was like butter. I've always had a little problem going from 2nd to 3rd. It was slow, and at higher rpms, I would get almost locked out of going into 3rd. Not anymore. Smooth as better. Clutch gets dropped and engaged smoothly and fast as hell. I love it. Well worth the whole $4 of brake fluid and the $5 for the bleeder kit. I recommend doing this mod for everyone. Just make sure you know how to bleed the clutch and you find pics.
